There`s a 944 with an old school small block Chevy in it here. I guess you can get a kit for it ? Not impressed with it. A local has a Corvair with a Vette engine. Very impressed. AutoX killer.

I had a Panamera in the shop Friday and that is exactly what I would do with it. Eliminate the back door, shave the roof line so it's curve is smooth and call it the new 928.

Consider your options, an engine swap can be very comprehensive. You can find cars out there that have already been swapped and save yourself a fair amount of money while losing the peace of mind knowing that you or a trusted shop did it.
More commonly people stay within the Porsche family and will put a 911 engine in a boxster, I'd suggest this route but also want to remind you that especially with how 996s are, it's cheaper to just buy a 911. I am unsure what model boxster you have but if you have a base, why not test drive an S and see if the few grand upgrade would satisfy your needs over a whole engine swap.

My base boxster will be moded for just looks.
I really really want a 986s in automatic with an engine like this.
I have to do it from scratch because I want my engine 0 miles/100k warranty and I do not trust anyone but my mechanic. He's been working for my father for 20 years and you can eat of his garages floor. Super clean
Money is not really the issue, but since I do not know about American cars, I do not know if the price is ok.

I drove a 997.2 S with PDK the other day and it's like driving a completely different car. Whoof! That's probably not much more than the cost of swapping in a 3.6L boxer, or whatever.

Yep, that's what I'm seeing. $35k should get you a 2009 or 2010 with ~40k miles.

Has anyone tried to go electric? With batteries getting much better over the next few years, it might be a lot cheaper to retro fit electric drive. Just a thought.

I like the idea of an home brew electric but have always assumed it would turn out terrible or be too difficult.
Does anyone know how much the car would likely weigh after a conversion? Would the car be more feather like with no engine or transmission or would the motors and battery end up weighing more then the original package?
