yes correct.. my bad the metal impeller is on the range rovers.. i think its composite not plastic on the 986 IIRC
though as an aside, the coolant is 5 year life, and for the cost of a water pump gasket, it's worth giving it a check with the coolant change

I paid $190 for the WP, $52 for low temp thermo/housing/gasket & $3.50 for the WP gasket, no sales tax and free shippingh @ warehouse33auto.com

water pump life
Don't know about you guys but I've never had a Porsche water pump last more than 60k miles. I'm on my 4th Porsche water pump on my 01 Base Box. My 02 S is now showing signs of leaking. It only has 50k miles.
I don't work on my pcars...so, it's nothing that I've done.
What's your average Porsche water pump life time?

water pump bolts
The water pump bolts are different lengths. Make a template out of cardboard and push the bolts into it as you remove the bolts.

The two longer bolts go in the two holes on the WP that have the raised edge on the back to help line up the assembly in case you forget to mark them when you take them out.

I went with Pentosin engine coolant. They have it (or can get it) at O'Reilly Auto Parts. $12.99 for 1.5 liters. It's been a year or two since I did mine, so I don't remember how many I had to buy. I think I bought 6 and ended up with an extra one, but that was many beers ago.
ETA: And don't skimp and use tap water. Distilled water doesn't cost that much.

Just bought 9 gal
6 to flush the system and 3 to mix
