Question about IMS

So we all check our oil filters for metal bits every time we change the oil. Why don't they make a magnetic dipstick so we could check it every time we fill up with gas?

That's a great question. I think you just made a new product for the market.

It already exists... I was using one in 2007 :-)

Great idea, though!

How do we get one for our Boxsters?

There wasn't enough demand to make a large run of them, so it never happened. remember, all cars past 2004 don't use a dipstick, so the market is limited.

Well, if it won't hurt anything I'm going to magnetize mine and see how it works. I know that the end is plastic but its metal inside so I think I will try it.

Interested to see what you come up with.

sounds like a good idea, except my 05 doesn't even have a dipstick. looks like a magnetic plug instead

I would like to have one. What's it take to get you to have some made?

Well, I tried to use my "magnetizer" to get the end of the dipstick magnetized but the plastic is stopping the contact with the metal. I will try some more and see if I can get it to work.

Wow, I think both and OP have a great idea for those who cares about their engines. I'm also one of those that slice open his oil filter

Def need a revisit Jake, not sure what you are talking about RE sml volume mfg. I think you wouldn't have enough of 500 imho. 9X6s and below.

Most protoype gp engines (bikes) have those, I'll try to snap a pic of one next time I'm at the circuit. Not only it's mag'ed, it has a mesh screen tip with a spongy material locked inside. Roughly half size a HB pencil size, not meant to check oil level (loll) but more to to catch AL, Mag and TI particles. Eng inspect that thing after each session the bike goes out

Few more ideas... motorsports secrets for ya loll Don't tell
