It's like matching the color of the buttons on your shirt with you're tie, socks and cuff links. All the accessories match. kind of like the tires, bumperettes and top.

Bumperettes

I've always felt the black makes the rear end look a little heavy. Then I saw them in silver and I thought they looked more integrated with the bumper. To each his own

Any way, I plan on doing it soon and I'll post pics, before and after, when done.

Definitely a matter of taste. I think they look good either way. I just prefer the black as it breaks up the cars rear and doesn't look as tall to me that way.
