Anyone used the emergency hood release?

Hi
My 2007 Boxster is stuck in the garage, battery not connected and hood /trunk locked, did not respond to fuse box jump.

SO i am trying to use the emergency hood release. See the pic.

I took 4 screws out of the plastic wheel-well liner, but I could not remove it, it seems to be attached in areas I cannot access, but i have been able to pull it open to a degree.
And I think i can see the emergency hood release! It looks like a silver wire!
I bent a metal clothes hanger into a useful shape and and managed to snag the wire solidly.
I pulled on the wire but nothing happens!

If anyone has done this before, do you need to pull in a certain direction? How hard do you need to pull to release the hood? Thanks

It needs to be pulled really hard.

thanks... I pulled really hard and ... my clothes hanger bent and released. I think I need to grab the emergency wire with pliers but I don't have anywhere near enough clearance for that. If I could get the plastic wheel-well liner out maybe, but the liner seems to extend across the bottom of the car and I can't get at it in the garage. Any ideas? Thx

A lot of us, including me run that wire through the tow hook hole. Then if it happens again, just pull the tow hook cover plug and there it is.

lurky - have you removed the wheel or are you trying to remove the liner with the wheel in place? And yes we know, to remove the wheel you have to get to the toolkit & jack in the front of the car which is locked.....
Because to get access the to the release cable, its very difficult without the wheel removed as the cable is usually tucked up behind the two black coolant pipes going to the front of the car.
The cable has to be pulled towards the rear of the car to release the bonnet (hood).

That is a tough spot to be in but someone here has been in this spot. Anyone?

When you do get it open do 2 things. Reroute the cable to the front tow hook spot AND put your tool kit with the wheel lock nut key on the floor behind the passenger seat for easy access.

No, its in the garage and the wheel is on. Don't think I could jack it up in the garage anyway.
I actually have 5 of (i think) 6 screws removed from the liner, if I could find the last one maybe I could get the liner out .

You mean the 2 things Paul suggested?

do 2 things. Reroute the cable to the front tow hook spot AND put your tool kit with the wheel lock nut key on the floor behind the passenger seat for easy access.
