replacing 4 spoke steering wheel with a 3 spoke

hi guys,

i'm looking to replace my somewhat worn 4 spoke steering wheel on a 2000 Boxster 2.7 manual with one of the cooler looking 3 spoke ones.

any tips on what to expect in terms of challenges when it comes to fitment and air bag?
the new 3 spoke one will come with the airbag, not sure what make year it is.

i bet i'm not the first one to do this so am hoping you can share some of that knowledge.

thanks,

Cristian

No, you are most definitely not the first to do this conversion, and if you would care to do a search of the forum (see "search" button at top of page) you will find many, many posts on this very topic that I am sure will address any question you might have. Welcome to the forum.

Had mine changed out years ago. It was an easy off and easy on just make certain the wheels are straight when you do the transfer. The airbag is a plug and play as I recall.

do you think 500$ for the steering wheel complete with airbag is a fair second hand price?

Yes I paid $450 for the airbag and $150 for the wheel four years ago.

Airbag is a plug and play. Disconnect your negative cable from the battery and wait a few minutes. There are a lot of cool steering wheels on ebay.

make sure to unplug battery and wait. Also the 2 bolts behind the steering wheel are a wierd angle and I believe they are allen heads.

Yes, torx. You'll also need a mongo 24 or 25 mm socket to get the nut loose. Be sure to mark the position of the wheel.
