Boogity, boogity, boogity! What's the fastest you have had you Boxster to?

Hit a nice stretch of open highway and got my Boxster up to 151 MPH. :D

What's the highest speed you've had your Boxster to? In MPH please.

Chuck W. 03-28-2015 05:46 PM

130 MPH. It was extremely smooth and planted and didn't feel that fast. There was more there too.

Oh yeah there is more lol. My previous was 132 MPH, different stretch of highway.

I just happened to hit a nice long stretch with no cars for miles, so I blew the dust out of her. Yeah the car felt completely planted the whole time. I could have got more, but had to slow down for my exit.

I've read the top speed of a Boxster S is 164 MPH. Is that governed or just an estimate?

Joe B 03-28-2015 06:04 PM

Not in the Boxster of course, but I once hit an indicated 170 mph, 3/4 of the way down the 3,500' main straightaway at Miller Motorsports Park. Legally ! Then I had to brake, hard! I was on an MV Agusta F4 1000s (motorcycle). Top speed is supposedly 186 mph (300 kph). The world seems to go by really quickly at that speed, not protected by a cage (car).

husker boxster 03-28-2015 06:04 PM

135mph at Kansas Speedway in the Cayman last Sep. Hope to hit 140 there in Sep. Will be doing a DE at COTA in May. Hope to match the 135 on the back straight.

At least I won't go to jail for my top speed.

260 km/h :D

That is 161.56 MPH...nice!

These threads come up every now and then. I believe there is a time and place for everything. Highways like this are just begging you to test the limit!

KRAM36 03-28-2015 06:37 PM

Looks about like the stretch I was on, except it's two lanes one direction and no beautiful mountain in the background. I wasn't out to due it, was just the right opportunity.

BIGJake111 03-28-2015 06:42 PM

110 or so... Only issue. I wasn't planning on it. Was just passing a few trucks late at night on a 6 lane in the wide open far left.

Was just riding in 6th and let the surge or torque pull me past a few trucks. Looked down and I was 110+.

Car was really planted though and felt like the air was perfectly zipping around it.

Porsche9 03-28-2015 06:53 PM

175 in a Carrera S on the German Autobahn. It's nice not to have worry about going to jail.

CHRISP357 03-28-2015 07:01 PM

Bought it in Dallas, got on the freeway and ran it up to 110 briefly. Drove all day and night and the next day in Wyoming I ran it up to 145 indicated and held it there for about 5 minutes. Solid as a rock. No real feeling of speed.

ryoder986 03-28-2015 07:08 PM

Haven't pushed it too hard in the boxster yet but I have been 150 in a BMW Alpina B7.

KRAM36 03-28-2015 07:11 PM

The 986 is well planted, thank you Porsche. Back in the days of the IROC-Z, I had a couple of them. One of them was geared for the highway and I hit around 168 MPH (not stock) and that car was drifting like it was going to take off lol.

I did the The NASCAR Experience around the Kansas Speedway. Those cars have some major power 186 MPH in the straights in no time. This wasn't the no passing allowed type. Their moto was "If you ain't passing, you ain't racing".

I thought this was about Boxsters?! :p

146 and I think it was all she had ;)
I'm not sayin when or where.

You have plenty of places to open her up from St Joe to K.C., although I think your trip to CO might have been when it happened.

I would have needed a lot more room to hit that max 164 MPH spot. Right now I'm pretty happy with the 151 MPH.

Smallblock454 03-29-2015 12:03 AM

Sorry to say, but KRAM36 is not fast enough. :D ;)

130. Country road with no driveway entrances. I couldn't believe how fast my wife and I got there. This car is so smooooth ,it was still pulling strong. That was with the top up.

jsceash 03-29-2015 05:47 AM

Fastest speeds I have with respect to tracks I try not to go above 10 mph over the limit to much on the street but do sometimes.
Pocono Full course Front straight 155 mph on a 3 day DE. IMSA course, South course. Full course 2.5 miles time was 1:16.34
Pocono IMSA Course (2.5 m) counter clockwise 144 mph Long Pond Straight 1:37.06
Wathins Glen Full course Turn 1 to Bus stop 137 Mph best laps 3.4 miles 2:15.41
VIR Full course (3.27 M) this year 138 MPH, Back straight best lap 2:16.21

Luv2Box 03-29-2015 05:52 AM

125 mph at Sears Point. Subtracting the 4 mph difference in actual speed vs readout 121 mph.

Duquette5 03-29-2015 06:19 AM

32 - that was from the tow truck to the driveway after DOT Salvage inspection. Still not registered yet. I'm getting impatient, Monday I get my plates! :)

Topless 03-29-2015 09:24 AM

138 mph with 5hz GPS data logger on a proper race track. April 4, 2014 CFOS

I tend to stay within the grey areas of the speed limit on public roads. :)

Perfectlap 03-29-2015 10:16 AM

The only way I would go up anywhere near that high is if I was
a) crazy
b) wearing my melon protector
c) did a recon run of every yard of that stretch of road to make sure the surface is legit.
d) 100% certain I was under the broom stick.

I once spun this car on an open road early on and I will not lie it was not like spinning any other car.
Ever since then I have respected the small window of reaction time that your afforded once you go from "ooops" to "oh ***t..."

265 km and still climbing:chicken:

That's 164.66 MPH, highest so far. Did a governor kick in? I'm curious to this Boxster 164 MPH top speed I have read about.

Bald Eagle 03-29-2015 01:20 PM

I'm often asked, "how fast will it go?"

I reply, "According to road tests I've read, it is supposed to go 165 or so, but I've never taken it above 140." But I never say how far below 140 I've driven it, I just leave them to believe whatever they want to believe.

In truth, I haven't done that kind of speed on public roads in many years.

Larry (the Bald Eagle)

MytinyBoxster 03-29-2015 01:32 PM

Fastest speed on a public road

116mph, top down and it felt much faster, top up since it had a tear 80mph too noisy and different feeling these speeds were achieved at 2am pretty much clear roads.

Pdwight 03-29-2015 01:37 PM

145 mph

One time and never again...had to see how fast it would go but I ran out of guts before it ran out of go...it seemed to have lots left BTW

Squozen 03-29-2015 02:27 PM

About 130MPH. It's not easy to do in Australia, as going 3km/h over the limit is a $165 fine. You need to pick your time and place very, very carefully. i.e. VERY far out of town, and for a VERY short amount of time.

I'm good for right now too, until I get my exhaust upgrades and tune done. :D

The car was very planted, I even changed lanes to get ready for my exit. I said this was 2 lanes one direction, it's actually 3 lanes one direction.

Street view and I took the 152 exit.

I generally do to, just had the perfect opportunity to see what she could do. When I looked and saw no cars in front of me, I couldn't resist the 3 lane highway stretching for miles. It was like Divine intervention.
