Boster plastic trim interior
Hi,
I have a 2001 Boxster with plastic woodgrain trim that is disintegrating. Is there a replacement for these pieces and if so, where? The pieces include a thin strip across the underside of the passesnger side dash with the term "airbag, the area around the speedometer and a piece on each door near the handle. Thanks, Larry |
Suncoast has the sport silver version: Dash Trim Strip Set in Sport Silver:Suncoast Porsche Parts & Accessories
Although it says professional installation - so I'm guessing this isn't going to be easy |
Wow $250 for that? If I were you I would just take it off and paint it. I am going to do that to mine when I get the car out of hibernation. There are a few how to guides on here. Do a search for dash trim and you should find something.

I removed and repainted mine the same color as the car and as Tommy notes there are a few threads on how to do this. The trim under the air bag was the easiest to remove, 7 torx screws if i remember correctly and two torx screws for each trim either side of the steering wheel. my car has a glove box so i removed that to gain access. However the ones either side of the wheel were more tricky, i had my head in the foot well and an extender on my screw driver!
here is the tread i used http://986forum.com/forums/performance-technical-chat/18663-help-required-interior-trim.html |
Unfortunately, I cant paint anything because the pieces are crumbling. I need to find replacement pieces and then figure out how to put them on. Looks like the original pieces were glued on

Ah right, erm thats an interesting one, maybe an owner in the past removed them and then just stuck them back on. do you have any pictures showing the crumbling?

Are you sure you don't have a stick on aftermarket wood grain kit installed? I recall seeing those advertised years ago. If so, you might be able to just peel it off, remove the glue or tape with WD40 or alcohol and be back to the original plastic.

I would like to see the crumbling also. If it is an aftermarket stick on, Naptha also works well to remove the glue. If you need spares, I can't recommend Woody enough!
