Installed a PSE (Porsche Sport Exhaust) - Photos
I came across a used PSE on eBay and picked it up for $125 delivered. It was weathered and has over 80,000 miles on it. It was in rough condition and took some work to get it looking nice enough to install on the Boxster.
I had an '03 exhaust that had been modified by Darin Fister at FD Motorsports. The FDM exhaust was a tad louder than the PSE, but the PSE has a deeper tone to it. I didn't bother to hook up the switch for the vacuum controlled valves. The default is for the valves to be open for the louder sound. If I ever stumble across a good deal on some Fabspeed secondary cat delete pipes I'll add them to the mix.
I do like the look of the PSE. They are different looking, fairly rare and OEM, a good mix in my mind.
These are two photos from the listing. It gives you an idea of what I started with.
After some polish and installed.
And, the '03 FDM exhaust....

Wow! You really did clean that baby up. Looks super nice!
I would get the Circuit Werks cat delete pipes. Much better quality and they mount to where the old cat pipes mounted, so you don't have your exhaust bouncing around. They are out of stock right now, hence the price. When they come back in stock the price is $189.99 shipped.

Also get these to connect them.

Holy smokes I'm digging the tiled garage floor!! Just playin' - excellent clean up job, I like the unique exhaust look and I'm sure the tone is much better than my stockers.

Thanks for the compliments. I have to admit that it was a tad challenging getting this one to shine. I enjoyed the challenge and the outcome.

I just put them on Craigslist for $350. I would have put them in the classified here, but the shipping cost would be a killer.

Chuck, out of curiosity, how much does the Fister weigh?

125 USD delivered. Wow. That was a bargain!
I've been looking for one for a long time. They were new around 2.300 euros over here in germany. The US PSE was not officially available in Germany, because they are too loud.
Because they are made from stainless steel they allways can refurbished to look like new at the outside.

Great deal Chuck! I've seen people pay ten times that much for one. $125 delivered! I wonder if the seller lost money on that deal because of shipping cost?

Just weighted it.... 32.2 pounds. The PSE is much weightier at 50+ pounds.

It was a good deal. It was listed poorly. No mention of PSE.

I bet he didn't make much. It was shipped FedEx and the package weighted in at 56.9 pounds. I am guessing it wasn't cheap to ship.

Thanks for doing that.
The Fister is lighter then I thought it would be. I'm looking at the Borla muffler and they show a shipped weight at 29 pounds from their website. Wonder what it actually weighs?

Yes please share with us the polishing technique. I have the PSE on MY99 for over 5 years now and it needs a good polish. Thanks. Great deal by the way. I paid $500 back in the day.

I have to bow my head in shame. I have always polished Boxster exhaust by hand, but this one was very weathered. So... I first used a 2" 320 grit Scotch Brite Polishing Ball on a power drill along with Blue Magic Metal Polish Cream. I had gotten the tube of Blue Magic in a gift bag when I entered the Boxster in a PCA Concours d'Elegance event. It was good stuff for taking the top layer of grit. I then used brake cleaner, Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish and applied this by hand using 0000 super fine steel wool . This cleaned it up more and added some shine. Lastly, I put several coat of Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish on by hand rubbing it in well then buffing it with a soft cloth. I would guess I put 10 to 12 hours into the polishing of it.

Awesome job! That exhaust looks amazing polished now. I know it is a time consuming project. I probably would have high temp lack painted it for my lazy butt.

That's what I did. Right now I don't have the time but if I did I'd polish it too.

Coolest exhaust for a 986 I think! 10-12 hours-- oh okay THATS how you got it to look so sweet. Suits your car.
