Here's one... Easy fix. No problem. Only 18k

Here is a z-top 97 Boxster. It looks like the clamshell lines have been filled in, so the z-top is not reversible without paint and bodywork. The $20k asking price seems pretty high to me.

I rather like the colour.
Guess you’d have to see it in person but the damage doesn’t look too extreme.

I kind of like the color as well!

I'm betting it's a bait car add. There's all kinds of similar adds down here with wrecked muscle or exotic cars for sale. I don't think it's a ploy to steal from you outright but more lure you into using their services to find one. Basically they're a middle man for the insurance auctions.

husker boxster 02-04-2018 05:32 AM

By the time you got it fixed, you'd have the cost of a '13 base 981 into it. Yes, it's an S but it would have a branded title. Think I'd rather have a base 981 with a good title.

This has to be one of the worst written ads I've ever seen. I felt dumber for reading it.

This is an ugly mess, but if I wasn't already over-loaded, I'd probably head there with a trailer tomorrow:

I actually took a chance on this one! Bought it and have removed most of the stone guards with the exception of the bumper. No damage so far! Cleaned up nice. Just replaced water pump and coolant tank. That tank was a bear!!! Runs nice needs a motor mount and a new oil fill pipe. AOS replaced already. Other than that pretty solid car.....Fingers crossed.

husker boxster 02-19-2018 04:22 PM

Better jump - he just dropped the price from $49K to $39K. Won't last long.

From the 2 pics, it looks like a solid car to start a resto on, but how do you know? Does it need all the parts he listed or is he just emptying his garage? It doesn't look like it has any seats in it. And I'm not a Pontiac guy, but I thought all SEs were gold int, not black. And it's an auto, not a 4spd. No way you get that kind of $$$ for an auto, even if it was already restored. Maybe he's not dumb in asking a crazy price. Someone might be high on crack and buy it. He can always incrementally knock another $30K off before he enters the ballpark.

FoxRvrBox 02-20-2018 12:44 PM

On the black TA, the ad says "some parts are missing from the car" near the bottom of the ad. He is selling this on the basis of the build sheet for someone to wan to restore it to match.

In typical low rent car salesman ad style, they list every possible thing about the car but the mileage. I bet it's a 140k+ mile car.
