You are half correct
19" are okay on the 986 but NOT if they are "busy rims" e.g. meshed, 10 spokes, etc. They will look dbl-size indeed. I know..... I had them before, can't count how many ppl mentioned about my BIG wheels LOL
The skinny and concave 5 spokes is another story tho
Those works in the 19" on the little boxster and look killer
