Last thing I wanna do...
Is speed in my Boxster..
Why risk a ticket because you know this car is a cop magnet. How many Boxsters do you see on a daily basis? Few and far between.. So why risk becomming that "$#$@! Frickin A-hole Jerk $#%#!! speeding in that Porsche!! " Now I'm not talking about keeping up with traffic flow which these days is at least 75mph...I'm talking about doing 85-90 down the freeway. You do that in your Boxster or any Porsche for that matter and people will remember you, especially on your daily routine commute. I saw a guy this morning in a newer 911 speeding and changing lanes so quickly almost causing accidents! I will not forget that guy. So my advice to all Porsche owners is take it easy, enjoy the car but don't act arrogant and reckless in traffic..do that in your SUV..ha ha...;) |
This has been talked about many times....and if I remember correctly - most of us felt this car was no more a cop magnet than any other. Use the search to look it up.
To me - if a cop sees you speeding, he doesn't care what you drive - he's just going to give you a ticket. |
Thanks, but I'll drive however I want.
Thanks for the unsolicited advice, but I think we all know how to drive and don't need you to tell us how it is just because you got owned by a 911. :ah:
Get over it. Nobody cares. |

I sure didn't buy a Porsche to drive the speed limit.

Aren't those signs merely suggestions? :D In 26 years of driving my old 5.0 and now the Boxster summer cars, I've been stopped only once, at a Ride check. I get busted driving the POS daily driver... |
I prefer to accelerate to the speed limit more quickly than everyone else.

I would much rather see you fly past in the left lane going 130 then have some idiot texting and driving in an suv going 80, some large vehicle that will demolish anything it runs into and likely leave the at fault driver safe and sound. Lane splitting and driving erratically is horrendous, but if you have a proper German car, why not enjoy it and drive like a respectful German would. Attentive and fast! |

I usually travel about 20 over the speed limit, but our highways are not that busy and when they are you are stuck going as fast as the person infront of you.... No point swerving through lanes to try get ahead.
|
I actually think its cooler to be going the speed limit in a fast car. At least on the hwy.
Had a newer GT3 RS pass me on the hwy. a couple months back, he was just taking it easy. I was cruising 72 in a 65, he was doing 73 I thought that was more impressive Speed limit signs don't make the grin http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1420586330.jpg These do |
Cop didn't see it, I didn't do it.

A few months back I hit 140 on I-80 between Tooele and SLC. Nice long flat road, great weather. Took 20-30 seconds. I pick my spots and there are plenty of places I won't do 2 over. No more tickets.
|
"I'm sorry officer, I... uh, I didn't know I couldn't do that." ;)
|
Not for nothing, but use Waze and keep an eye on your mirror.
|
Speed is a thrill to be enjoyed daily in small sips lest Big Brother spot you and take your fun away from you.
Radar detectors, Waze, glance up in the sky frequently and daily knowledge of the patrol schedules helps you pick and choose your guilty pleasures. Long duration speeding is best done on the race track where you only need to focus on the roadway, guages and mirrors. Around these areas I find the biggest problem is people in the PASSING lane are actually going slower than the right lanes and below the legal limit. It would drive a proper German driver to road rage. I'd like to have a directional EMP device that would shut down these vehicles and cell phones. Oh "Q" how are you coming along with that device? :D |
We go over 40km (25 mph) over the posted limit and the car can immediately be confiscated. You find yourself at the side of the road with no vehicle. And there are substantial financial penalties as well.

It depends who pulls you over as well. Most guys if you are friendly not not being a prick, will reduce it as if you were not doing 40 over. Rest of the times my radar detector is amazing I never thought it would work as well as it does. |

Every other time it's some other thing like the no license plate (didn't have one on the previous cars either, but only pulled over in this car for it). And recently one cop tailed me and ran my plate even though I wasn't doing anything wrong and discovered that one town had gone after my license over a single unpaid parking meter ticket resulting in a license suspension (apparently SOP here in NJ according to my lawyer). The cop claimed my tail light wasn't working when I hit the brakes but after he wrote up the ticket I drove up to the gas station up the street and checked out the lights, nothing wrong at all. The other thread you refer to mentioned a review of tickets issued by police but not the number of times certain cars were pulled over by police. I have been pulled over ~20-30 times in this car but only about 1/4 of those resulted in an actual ticket which I of course fought and had reduced to non-points fines. That other study of only citations that were issued might give the reader the impression that I never attract the attention of police, which is most certainly not the case. So this car has actually encouraged me to observe the speed limit just to avoid the hassle. But since first going through high performance driving instruction I find that I look at the road ahead differently with more respect for the braking distances required. So I'm always looking for escape routes/buffers which means I have to maintain distance to the cars in front which of course requires one to slow down. Someone who is constantly weaving in and out of traffic is just showing you they foolishly put too much faith in the driving ability of the other drivers he doesn't know the first thing about. Should one of these slow pokes do something unexpected, the guy in the hurry can end up teets up in the middle of highway a.ka. "the early exit". An experienced and competent driver doesn't put that kind of blind faith in drivers he doesn't know. |

But I do appreciate everyone will have personal opinions/takes on this and different areas of the world might also influence this. |

Nothing to do with the car itself - guess how many boxsters, other sport cars and broken pick-up trucks an officer sees on a working shift. Does he/she care much about the make of your friggin car LOLLL go ask them In China, speeding 50% over the advertised speed limit brings you a nice 15days holiday in jail, a criminal record, car impounded on the spot and your driving license suspended for 12months. Irresponsible jerks aren't tolerated much here... German, Italian car or not. People behave... in the large cities where the policy is enforced Zero tolerance also - 0% alcohol. One sip, 30 days in jail. Eat that! |
For many of us, it comes down to this. Would you marry a super model and not "sample the goods" with frightening regularity? So why would you buy a 160 mph car and drive 55?
|

BTW.....I neither have been pulled over in the Porsches I have owned, not to mention several other sport / muscle cars I have owned (2 of them even red). Last two tickets were in an SUV and a station wagon lol........ |

When I'm on the highway, I know if I can safely pass someone based on many factors, one of which is the speed of oncoming traffic. If you suddenly appear out of nowhere because you are zooming along far above the speed limit, that creates a huge issue for me if I'm in the middle of passing someone - someone that I could safely pass if you were obeying the law. If you want to drive them super fast, take the car to the track or move to Germany and enjoy the Autobahn. |

Giller vs Perfect Lap debate
Just another observation...LOCATION. Ontario Canada vs NJ USA. When I lived in Canada and drove to work in Toronto every day (40 miles) I may not see a police cruiser along the way every day or for days at a time. Now in Southern California I drive 15 miles and see no less than 3 police cruisers every day, usually about 6 cruisers on the evening drive. The quantity of patrol cars here in the US cities is staggering compared to Ontario, Canada. Hence the difference in experiences. Some days I feel like I'm getting a police escort to and from work  but I have learned their patrol times and locations, plus have radar detector and know where I can turn it loose for a few seconds here and there. |

Does your PCAs offers discount at some your local tracks or int'l circuits? They do here.... pcar owners gets 20% discount on track days/session tickets here. Lasrt time I've heard anyway, might be more now dunno Might be something you guys want to recommend for your local PCA org to look into and organize. I don't personally track my little red boxster toy but have other means to get me going at 200mph on the local circuits. Geez my practice superbike has more horsepower than my boxster lollll For me the boxster is a fun, peppy and stylish roadster, but nothing to go fast with at all (in a straight line maybe lol). My 2.0 VW Passat is faster for god sake... |

I'll save my excessive speed for the track and not the highway. Like I said I keep up with and pass people regularily on the highway..80-90 mph.. It's the other person who doesn't see me I'm worried about! Glad to see so many drivers with interesting opinions...even the person who told me basically to shove it! |

"Drive these cars the way they were designed to be driven." [sic] It's a philosophy that escapes me because it seems to only apply to specific cars (yet BMW people et al., all feel the same way, too) and to nothing else. For example, should the 2nd amendment-ors here only use guns for what they were designed to do? Of course not. *wink* Alternatively, if a 2015 Toyota Camry is designed with a top speed of 120mph, was it designed with the intention of people driving 100+mph? Interesting dilemma, wouldn't you say? I mean, if it wasn't meant to be driven at over 100mph, why is it designed with a top speed of 120mph? It doesn't make sense. Why does a Toyota need to go over 90mph? But it does!?! https://sp.yimg.com/ib/th?id=HN.6079...1&pid=15.1&P=0 Sarcasm aside, I really like the combination of the two sentences above - The opinion about the only way one can truly obtain fulfillment, followed by the personal disclaimer. I'll tell you why too - it's truly fantastic - if both statements are true, I don't think that... what's this guy's name... linderpat, yeah, that's it - linderpat - as I was saying, I don't think linderpat has any ground to reply to this post, right? I mean he could care less about what people think about his driving in an event (which is based on the philosophy of driving the car the way it was designed to be driven)- surely, he could care even less about what someone types about these statements, right? Otherwise, his disclaimer is false. Or... if the disclaimer is false, then is the prior sentence also invalid? An interesting case... let's watch and see what happens. Oh wait, I forgot to start out this post with a Ricky Bobby-ism, "With all due respect..." There. Now there is no way any offense could be taken. ;) https://sp.yimg.com/ib/th?id=HN.6080...7&pid=15.1&P=0 Carry on. |
This thread is incredibly silly. Can't we just get back to gun toting cats flipping smart cars for old time's sake?
|
Hey cfos, "designed for" and "capable of are two significantly different things. Now I'm not going to lie, I didn't read your entire post but I would bet that when you aren't in it, your husband drives it pretty aggressively!

Never really understood myself.... all/any cars were designed to be driven. In the context I think what people mean by saying this is the Porsche cars are designed to take the beat-up, you can push them to the limits and they'll still give out plenty. ^ whatever... smart car flipping... now we're talking! |

That's fine; I'm sure when your husband isn't helping you with reading comprehension (and closing quotes), you aren't at your possible best. But then... how could you be? Aside from Particlewave who probably think's it's Mecca, at the end of the day you are in Idaho. It's great that you can read! ...Well, sort-of... I mean at least the words, them concepts can be down-right tough! ;) XOXO |
