Help: RPMs bottom out after high revs

Hey everyone, just picked up my 1999 Boxster today!

The only issue I have with it is that my RPMs will bottom out when I either A) have it up at 5-6k RPMs and let it come back down (if I come to a red light) or B) when the AC is on and I stop after normal driving.

The guy I got it from was very knowledgeable and had replaced quite a few things and said he thinks it was narrowed down to a sensor. Has anyone heard of this issue before or have any idea what exactly I might have to replace?

Thanks in advance!
