Preferred Engine? (poll)
Of the factory engines what is everyone's favorite model!
I love my 3.2 but for the sake of value and no worries fun my vote is on the 2.5. |
3.2 - more power is almost always better.

No replacement for Displacement

More power more fun, no two ways about it!

3.4 transplant

At the end of the day, they are both excellent motors for the size and weight of the car and will put a smile on your face every day you go for a spin.

My favorite engine is the one in my car .

Man I wish I had a 3.8 with a big fat torque curve....actually I thin about 350 WHP would be perfect in these cars.

Weight a minute
Well I've got a 2.7 so of course I voted for that :)
I know someone with a Boxster S who says that the 2.7 base handles better than the S due to it's lighter weight. Boxster 2.5 = 1252 Kg Boxster 2.7 = 1260 Kg Boxster S = 1320 Kg In the S compared to the 2.7, you may have more power, but you've also got your girlfriend in the car with you, which is really not going to help with fast cornering ;) I'd say the 2.7 base may be the best compromise, unless you are into drag racing. However, I've never driven an S, and I should probably avoid trying one just in case :D |

I didn't want all the votes in the same place haha! |

An extent of expendability with some 2.5 cars worth less than they would be parted out. |
I have nothing to compare other than 3.2
Even with the 3.2, the car is capable of more hp and torque and would make it a 911 killer |
I have tracked a 2003 Boxster since 2009. After a ton of modifications on a 2.7, I could keep up to a fairly stock 3.2 Boxster S in all the tight sections on a road coarse. A 100 feet into a straight they would be pulling away Because I could not get the same torque. Slowly I could catch back up if the straight was long enough into braking again keeping up in the tight sections. Frustrating!

My vote will always be for larger displacement (more power). I think most of us here are always looking for more power.
Within my family we have 4 Boxsters. 2002 S 3.2 Tip - My Wife 2003 Base 2.7 Tip - Brother 2003 S 3.2 Manual - Son in law 2008 S 3.4 303HP Manual The 1st Boxster I ever drove was the 2003 Base. This is how I got hooked on the Boxster and I had to have one. Only disappointment at that time was because it was a Tip. I bought my 1st Boxster a year later but it had to be a Tip so my wife can drive it. I was happy with the power increase but still something was missing (Manual). My Son in-law decided he wanted one and he bought a 2003 S manual. After driving his car I had to have one with a manual trans. I ended up buying a late 2008 model with 303 HP. Having owned this I really didn't care to drive the previous models anymore. I ended up giving my 2002 S to my son and he uses this as a daily driver. It now has 160k miles. Now I'd like to get my hands on a GTS |
