2006 base base 987 price

Well....I'm looking at purchasing a brand new (ordering one) 987 base. And
when I say base I mean BASE!! Absolutely no options. I need to stay right
at $41,000 and I believe I have a dealer who is willing to order a base 987 for
this price.

According to Edmunds, the invoice of this car is right around 40k (including
delivery). Do you all think I'm reasonable in offering 41k?

p.s. I know there are a ton of options that would be nice to have or maybe even
condsidered "must haves" (i.e. I'll buy the windstop at a later date). But I
really need to stay at the 41k magic number.

I don't know, Georg. My only comments are:

1) Any option you purchase "tommorow" will cost about 2-3 times what it will cost you "today" if you ordered it at the time of your initial factory order. Porsche charges a lot for Tequipment stuff and then the dealer wants money for labor.

2) Haven't you found any attractive 2005 left-overs within your budget? I would expect that you can get a better deal or better optioned car with the right 2005 purchase.

Everyone has their favorite options it looks like yours is the car itself. It seems to me that you have an extremely generous dealer. At least you get to pick the exterior and interior colors and truely call it your own choice. I would also agree that the options will be very pricey after the fact. I guess i'd rather have the car and worry about the extras than not have the car at all. Have you checked dealer inventories to see what's available? In the end a base porsche is better than no porsche at all. Good luck and welcome to the board.

I would highly suggest buying a used one then! There are a ton of exceptionally-low -mileage 2005 Boxsters on eBay, for instance.

I don't know this time of year. I bought a new one back in October that was fairly well optioned for $42k (sticker just over $50k). However, it was for an '05 with '06s on the lot. I spent some time negotiating with different dealers and found it was tough to get too far below sticker - I got kind of lucky on mine and it was a nation-wide search (bought it in cali and I live in NJ)

I agree with eslai - don't buy a bare bones porsche, just for the sake of owning a porsche! Your investment (and your enjoyment) will be greater with some options. That being said, though, I think the 987 has advantages over the 986 IMHO - however, I was originally looking at 04 986S models, as well as older 911's, M3's and the Infiniti G35 coupe to be within a certain price (mine was a gift from my wife - but we agreed on a set price range - this is somewhere in another thread) Like Dr Kill, we stumbled across an 05 that was left over stock with 06's on the lot and got a deal to die for!

Even doing the initial research before purchasing, I think the lowest I saw an 06 987 was mid $40000's, but this is southern California. I'd keep an eye out for remaining 05's or surf eBay.

Thank you all for your advice! This forum is awesome!! I had the chance to
buy a 2005 987 (dealer service-loaner car) for 37,600 in December of 2005. But
I wasnt ready to purchase then. It turns out that it would have been a killer
deal in that it wasnt a base-base Boxster and it only had 4k miles.

I'm gonna seriously consider that new 05 that mikenoh pointed out. I do have
an offer from a dealer for a base-base 06 for $41,400.

I've owned a 944 and a 914 (a nightmare!) so this 987 will be a DREAM!!! Keep the advice coming and I'll let you know when I finally purchase one.

My suggestion is that if you're hot on a leftover '05'--which I think is the best deal--you might think of doing something pretty quick. The inventory on '05's for both dealers has really shrunk in the last few weeks.
