The engine stamp serial # is viewed from top or bottom or bottom of engine. Near tranny or starter as in your picture ?

It is on the oil sump rail.

In case, like me he's not sure what an 'Oil Sump Rail' is:

That's the bottom of the engine, right side. It is just forward of where the O2 sensor sticks out from the exhaust.

And, it will most likely gunked over. Look for a flat spot and rub there.
