Power steering fluid

What is considered to be the best power steering fluid for the Boxster theses days?

Pentosin CHF11.S is the correct fluid for the car, most NAPA stores carry it. You need to note that it is not compatible with many other fluids, but as it is a full synthetic, it does an excellent job.

You can kind of flush the system by jacking up the front end, removing as much fluid out of the reservoir as you can with a syringe/turkey baster, refilling, starting the car and turning the wheel gently, lock to lock a couple of times. Repeat until you have run through about 3/4 of the can of fluid, save the rest for top ups.

LN Engineering seems to believe that RedLine is the best

Yes I need to flush, replace, add fluid as I am getting some groaning on full lock....I have a UDP as well.

I suppose jacking will bring stagnant fluid out of the rack area but I generally don't ever run the car on stands....can it be purged without running the car?

I read that on LN site, and went for it in mine. I now have 1500 miles on my rebuilt engine, and no issues with the steering pump. I actually think it works better, but that could be the quality and $ dealer alignment.

Not without disconnecting some fluid lines, that I know of. Its no big deal to run the car on stands, you are not going to be getting underneath it.

While you're at it why don't you buy & install the LN Engineering PS cooler
You'll get the RedLine fluid included and you will have to drain all the old fluid ...

Jaykay, If you're in Toronto and go with Pentosin, Pfaff Porsche in Woodbridge sells it for $29/liter. That's half the price NAPA sells it for.

Follow JFP recommendation. Stick with the Pentosin CHF 11. IMHO.

I'm used to doing this on other cars, BUT the Boxster has long PS lines going up and back from the front of the car. The factory manual says capacity for the PS system is 1.0 liter (of Pentosin CHF 11 S). But I was only able to suck out and refill 20 cc of fluid from the PS reservoir today. That's only 2% of the system. At this rate a dozen repeats of suck and refill may only change about 20% of the fluid.

Is there any trick to getting more than 20 cc out of the reservoir? I used a large syringe with a clear vinyl tube extension.
