Intermittent fuel gauge problem

So, I've got a 2010 Boxster Base, 25k miles, bought last September at 23k. Stored December through March using an Optimate 6. Two weeks ago I start the car, and the "low fuel" message and warning light appear, even though the tank was full. That kept up for a while, but when I started the car later in the day, the gauge operated normally--which it has done until today, when the problem reappeared. I filled up, but to no avail. Anyone seen this before? Any ideas?
Thanks very much.
David
