OBC install who has done this ?

I have a 01S and have sourced a switch assembly complete. My Tech has turned on the OBC feature on my car. I have wires on the way with the VW connectors. MY question is.... there are a lot more parts in the list, like a connector and a connector repair kit , also caps for the switch assembly...I see no reason to replace the caps on my 4 armed aray here...what do I need the extra connectors for ? and why do I need a connector repair kit ??

Do I just need the wires with the correct pins ?

I called Pelican and asked for technical help and got a poor young man who knew nothing about this project, he just told me to buy the book and order all the parts.

Anyone have a good pic of the harness you made up...??

Thanks in advance

Dwight

You should just need the 5 vw wires, 1 terminates to a ground point, the connector it mentions is the little block that connects to the OBC switch.

This is the guide I used :

Pelican Technical Article: Boxster On Board Computer (OBC) Upgrade / Boxster Turn Signal Switch Replacement - 986 Boxster (1997-04) -

I used these :

vw/audi wires : 5 x Part 000979009E
BMW Connector : 1 x Part : 61136909058

Follow the guide, took me approx 2 hours but I was also changing to a 996 Cluster.

Regards

Dan

Interesting , you are the first one to mention the BMW connector. The VW wires looked to me to be very close to the BMW pins I used when I added OBC to my 323IS

It's quite a possibility as they seem like generic pins across most motoring applications.

The 009's are fine for 2001+ I believe & fit the connectors fine on the rear of the cluster.

I found the BMW connector mentioned on a forum somewhere & tried my local BMW dealer, they cost £0.79p so about $1.30 each, I ended up buying 4 with the intention of making a few looms to sell on

Thanks , I found the OEM Pins. I may make up a few looms after I do this to recoup my cost
