986 = Great Travel Car? Whodathunk...

Have had my Boxster since January and put 6k miles around Charlotte... Decided to take my daughter to the beach and we went in style...left the Kia at home. I was a little nervous at first - taking the Box so far from home (Charleston, ~260 miles).

I must say, this car is a wonderful highway car. I love driving the 6 speed around town, but long distance highway - where you can get her up there....simply magnificent!!!! I must also say, the seats are pretty comfortable on a four hour trip.

I realize I am just stating what so many others have professed, but I had to let it out - was that good of a drive!!

Sounds like you guys had a blast. My wife and I just did a 3900 mile road trip a few weeks ago. Of that total, only about 1000 miles the first couple of days was on Interstate highway. The balance was all state roads and 2-lane US highways. If you've not taken a serious road trip in your Boxster you don't know what you're missing.

Did 6K in mine in less than 3 weeks last month mostly on secondary roads. Another couple went with us in their 986. Not so much as a hiccup from either car. Like Peter Porsche said at parade, " we drove them like Porsches should be driven".

Have only done a few 200 mile trips through back roads and I totally agree.Time looking out over the front fender tops and great fitting leather seats are the deal!

I hope the traffic and construction on 26 south of Columbia wasn't as bad for you as it was when I went to hilton head this summer haha. However, I love seeing trips in boxsters makes me trust mine for when the day comes.

Ditto, did 2 road trips in July, for a total of 3600 miles. My wife really like the Boxster because she can read without feeling sick (and it takes a while for her to notice how fast I'm going, which is definitely a good thing )

I know exactly what you mean. A week after I got mine we did a 750 mile round trip and it was wonderful. I too couldn't believe how comfortable it was and of course how much fun to drive. It holds a lot of stuff as well.
The best thing is my wife didn't complain once about my driving

I'm planning another long weekend trip soon

Enjoy

Absolutely...
These are great long distance driving cars. It's too bad people are too worried about them breaking to actually enjoy the experience behind the wheel!
I did 1000 miles in a weekend on a road trip to Indy for the Sprint Cup races a couple of weekends back.
Top down on a nearly new deserted highway doesn't get much better.
The drive down and back was as good as the race, but I may be a bit biased...

My bucket list includes a drive from Fort Lauderdale to Pike's Peak in the Boxster. Hopefully I'll get to it next Spring.
