My buddy who is a Mercedes mechanic gave me a case of new DOT 4 mercedes brake fluid that he had kicking around in his shop...can I use this in my '02 Boxster S?

The keyword is DOT 4, so yes, sounds like a score!

The factory fluid from suncoast says this:
=====
Factory Brake Fluid - 1 liter Bottle

This DOT 4 motor vehicle brake fluid conforms to the US safety standard FMVSS 571.116/DOT 4/DOT 3, SAE-specification J1703 and ISO 4925

Yes but only sealed bottles. Absorbs moisture. Dot 4 is what you need, lots of makers. Mercedes just uses one of those.
