Latest update: New spring installed - that was a PITA to do in the car. With spring on, cylinder passed another leak down test with flying colors. Put the oil pan back on - practice making a nice bead with the 5900. Installed the oil filter and new magnetic drain plug. Replaced 4-6 spark plug tubes and spark plugs, reinstalled coil packs and buttoned up that side of the car. Reinstalled the carrier for the lifters and went through and gave the head one more good cleaning to remove old gasket/rtv. I think I have the car put back together about as far as I can go. FedEx should have my new cam brakes and chain to me today and the plan is to finish motor assembly, set timing and button everything up tonight with the possibility of starting it tomorrow! Fingers crossed!

Outstanding. Are you replacing the Variocam pads on both sides?

Not today. 1st goal is to get it running. I suspect after knowing what the worn ones look like it'll eat away at me until I do. The good news is I now have the tools and knowledge to tackle this project and it could probably be done in an evening or two or on a saturday.
