Unhappy tic click tic click grinding sound at start up...

My 02 Boxster recently began to have a grinding, tic click tic click sound after starting the engine. It is not very loud, but noticeable inside. Then it fades away as the engine warms up. Do I have a problem here? I donno if something's loose ....

Hi,

Sounds like the Hydraulic Lifters. It's not too unusual and nothing to really worry about. Your Car is an '02, so it's getting a little older and things like this will begin to crop up.

If it gets Louder, or doesn't go away so quickly, it's something to look into. Otherwise, just be sure to warm the Car thoroughly before getting on it.

This can also be caused by a low Oil level, so keep an eye on this as well. Finally, a dirty Lifter can also get noisy. When was your last Oil Change and how often do you change it? You might want to shorten your Service Interval. Hope this helps...

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99
