Longest Boxster single day drive

My longest drive was last year, N.J. to Outer-Banks N.C. - 400+ miles, 7-8 hrs. At the end it was hot and stuck in hour + stop and go traffic. Pretty much worst conditions at the end of long drive. The boxster gave me absolutely no problems in either direction. I had about 60k miles on the odometer then

Now I'm contemplating driving to upper Florida, 950+ miles, I-95, in a single day 15 hrs+
Coming back I might do a 2 day so I can drive some nice roads back maybe Skyline drive (I know it's 35mph)
I'll have about 67k on the car.
It would be on my new Spring oil and filter.
I'm on new plugs and belt.
So I can already hear "...replace water pump...replace AOS..."
So what have others pushed their boxsters too and what did they do ahead of time

I flew to Dallas-Ft Worth to pick up my "new to me" 2002 Boxster S back in 2005. I was going to have it shipped to northern Illinois, but decided transportation costs were too much, as I fly for free (spouse of United Air employee). Car already had 7400 mi, so adding another 1000 wasn't a big deal to me.

Flew in on a Friday AM, dealer picked me up at the airport and I was on the road by 1 or so in the afternoon. Drove to Springfield MO, around 450 mi before stopping for the night. Up the next AM and drove the remaining 550 mi to my home, tired, but satisfied with the adventure.

Car had been serviced with oil change and didn't skip a beat coming home, except weather was too cold for top-down driving (early April in the Midwest).

Chicago to Calgary Canada in 2013. We only stopped for food, gas and bathroom breaks. 6,788 miles in 7 days, from Georgia to Edmonton Ab Canada, and back. 3.8L Gen III Flat 6 powered 99 Boxster (330 RWHP)!

107 miles of that one leg of the trip was on a dirt road in Montana :-)
Charles Navarro (Of LN) and I were dead after this run.

I've done several 454 mile runs between NC to FL to see my girlfriend, only 1 stop for gas. Never any problems, ran like a top.

Edit: I also drove it back from PA to NC; I think that one was 550 miles? Unsure.

2000 km in 36 hrs was fun especially the portion where I got to ride twisty roads with superb view but most of it was highway.

When I picked up mine in McKinney, TX I drove to Houston to see my in-laws for lunch, then drove to New Orleans for the night. (About 620 miles) Woke up the next morning and drove home to Spring Hill, Fl (Another roughly 600 miles). Had both rain and sunshine. Had zero problems, ran like a champ!

I've done about 750 miles in a day. However, I hit the traffic between Las Vegas and LA on a Sunday evening, which if you don't know should be avoided at all costs. It's the only time you will be in bumper to bumper traffic in the middle of nowhere at 1AM (which sucks in a manual). It made what should have been a 10 hour drive, into a 15 hour drive.

I have no hesitation about taking the Boxster on road trips, these cars where made to be driven!

A few years back I drove my 2002 base 986 from Newport KY to Miami FL to watch my beloved Bearcats play in the Orange Bowl. (1100 Miles each way). We stopped overnight in Winter Haven FL on the way down, but drove straight through on the way back. I did not do anything special other than change the oil beforehand. The car ran fine, but those seats are not made for 20 hour rides. (ouch!)

Planning on a 650 mile drive this spring to the Blue Ridge Boxster Summit at the end of May. In the process of changing plugs, filters, brake fluid. Looking forward to the warm weather & twisty roads.

The first 850 miles in a day are fun, after that its a chore! I did Chicago to Denver (no sleep) in a 40 year old car back in 2006. That sucked!

Not in a Boxster but in the late 80s/early 90s I drove my 77 Buick LeSabre from the Northern part of Maine to FL in two 17+ hour days... That was no fun. I have done that trip 3 or 4 times but it always was spread in 3 days. That last time I was eager to get back so decided to do it in two... Blah...

Not to hijack the thread,

but Jake I have made the Newport KY to north of Denver CO run straight through on many occasions. The wife and I trade off driving every 4 hours. Apologies to folks that live in Western Kansas or Eastern CO but that part of the drive is brutal. You can only spend so many hours driving through barren prairie, before the psychosis starts to set in. I do not take the 986 though, I rent a car so I can bring my bicycle. Nothing says thrill like riding a bike across the Trail Ridge Highway in Rocky Mountain National Park at 12,000 feet with no guardrails.

For me the boxster's seat, left hip bolster, starts to pressure my left hip and then the discomfort starts after a few hours.

It's about $150 gas each way (About 37+ gals @ $4/gal)which is comparable with flying.
It's a little less then a 4 hour flight(If direct - but I doubt), time to get to and checkin before, after land time, then drive 1.5 hrs to destination - this turns in to 8-9 hours.
So driving 15 hours in a porsche isn't such a wacky idea

Besides I'm off my 12,000 miles a year this year due to weather and extra car. It's been sitting in the garage.
So I need to get back on track

wife and I have driven from OC to Vegas in a day then back the next approx 250 miles each way. Top down most of the time until the wind noise got tiring. Other than that i never was uncomfortable at all. got 30mpg to boot. I'd have no reservation driving the car anywhere.

In 2003 I bought my Box on E-bay flew to Portland OR performed a PPI/preflight check & drove back to Manhattan Beach CA via Pacific Coast hwy 1 over the next 4 days. 2002 I was managing Porsche's western region Press Fleet. Road & Track was having a competion to find the "Best Handling Car" @ Buttonwillow track near Bakersfield CA. R&T invited Porsche to bring a Box S & 996 Turbo. The only Turbo we had was north of LasVegas in The Valley of Fire for a photo shoot for 2003 models. I left Long Beach at noon driving a new 2003 C4S with supple leather seats & met Eric Dahlquist the photographer. I traded the C4S for the Turbo with standard leather seats & headed back to Manhattan Beach arriving about 2:00am. Got 2 hours sleep & headed out to Button Willow, refueled close to the track & bumped up the tire psi a couple lbs. before delivering to R&T about 7:30am. At 8:00am Brian Herta the guest hot shoe arrived to do most of the numbers testing.
Longest day was about 25 hours. I was driving from LA to LA (Louisiana to Los Angeles), spent the night at my cousin's house in Dallas. Left for LA at 8:00am stoped to receive a speeding ticket in Calhoun County from a Deputy who refered to my "little yellow car". Stoped for dinner about an hour in Phoenix, arrived on the outskirts of LA @ 8:00am & finally arrived in Manhattan Beach close to LAX about 9:30am.

Hip pain? Do you keep your wallet in one of you back pockets by chance? If so stop and use front pockets only...also less likely for pick pockets to get it. Got this advise from the Anaheim Angels team doctor years ago. (no I will never call them the la ang... F Marty Moreno! We are not LA!)
