I want to polish my exhaust and I can not figure out how to remove the rear bumper. I took the front off yesterday because I found a great writeup and Youtube but I can not find one on the front. Please help

You need to start by removing the rear spoiler first.

-Raise the spoiler manually w/ the switch near the dead pedal(or the rear spoiler switch if you've done that mod)

-Open the rear trunk so you don't mess it up while work

-Get a center punch, small nail or something you can tap the middle of the three rivets out with

-remove the rear spoiler cover

-Remove the two bolts located inside the spoiler by looking downwards within the spoiler

-Lift and remove spoiler

Now removing the rear bumper

-Remove the bumperettes by releasing their bolt. You can see the bolt when you get on the ground and look on your back

-remove the wheel well housing screw, 1/side

-remove the three screws located on the bottom of the bumper, 3/side

-remove the screws from the license plate lighting,2/per light

-release the lights from the bumper

+1 on GTA_G20 -- you might even be able to do it faster than it took him
to type it -- nice write up!

Thumbs up

This should be a sticky, or maybe added to the FAQ if it isn't there already.

Don't remove license plate lights from rear bumper....

Even my Bentley manual says to remove them! It's a total PITA to reinstall.

Just follow the wiring back to where it plugs in to the body harness and disconnect it there. Just unclip the plug and go.

A lot less messing around, and less chance of breaking something. Just remember to plug the harness together before buttoning up, or you'll get more practice taking the bumper off again to reconnect the wiring!

I've got to swap my damaged rear bumper tomorrow. Does anyone know whether the centre pins to the spoiler rivets are easily recoverable for re-use after being pushed in?

I have an 04 Boxster S, and my rear wing doesn't have the 3 rivets with the push out centers. How is the top of the wing being held on? Does anyone know how to remove it? Thanks.

Tony

There are three holes underneath the wing. Use a small screwdriver and insert it into the hole. The clips need to be pushed toward the front of the car very gently. The painted portion will pop off and you can get at the two bolts holding the spoiler.

Bumper swap completed without too much fuss today, obviously it looks much better than the damaged one I removed and I was relieved to find no further damage hiding beneath it. Interesting to see an emergency boot (US=trunk) release cable hiding beneath there as well.

Except for one tiny thing: the wiring loom plug for the number plate lights was crushed. I didn't have another one to hand so managed to effect a temporary solution, but would like to properly replace the damaged plug as it connects neatly to a holder which secures the loom up away from the exhaust.

Does anyone know the part number, please?

Frustratingly, I downloaded a wiring diagram but the plug is shown at the very top of page 209 (third from left) and the .pdf file cuts off the number just above the diagram.

The original plastic rivets holding the top of the spoiler on would have been easy to re-use but I replaced them with new plastic trim rivets which have cross-headed screw pins which can easily be removed. Glad I did as the spoiler needed to be removed a few times for adjustment.
