Black car?
I like these. But I would powder coat black for a base layer with a gun metal finish on top... you already have the 19" tires.

I think you know that I love your current wheels...

been thinking of getting a set like them eventually too.

JAAY 02-11-2014 08:35 AM

My currant wheels will be going soon very cheap.

particlewave 02-11-2014 08:45 AM

Oh boy...I was just thinking about how much I like your current set. I wonder how much I have left in my allowance?

JAAY 02-11-2014 12:32 PM

Next request can you make them black so I can see.

papasmurf 02-11-2014 02:32 PM

I will watch the classifieds. Your current wheels are replica's, correct?

JAAY 02-11-2014 02:53 PM

Yes they are replicas with factory porsche center caps. Hankook ventus v12 tires on them with 80% tread left.

Could not tell from the photos, that they were replicas.
My choice for best looking wheels on a 986 would be, ...

19": ORIGINAL PORSCHE CARRERA SPORT 987 WHEELS
18": ORIGINAL Fuchsfelge WHEELS (own them --> "Summer")
17": ORIGINAL PORSCHE BOXSTER WHEELS (own them --> "Winter")

JAAY 02-12-2014 11:18 AM

Got em at a great deal. Price was waaay to good to pass up. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1392236271.jpg

papasmurf 02-12-2014 08:06 PM

Now you need to make me a deal like that

:).

Glad to see you found what you were looking for. Post some pics when you get the new shoes put on.

BRAN 02-13-2014 01:38 AM

Congratulations!
Those 18" Cayman wheels are definately my taste, too.

I guess I'm kind of late, but here you go.

Exactly what I was thinking :)

JAAY 02-14-2014 05:31 AM

I think I'm going to have to try some gloss black plasti dip after I get some rubber on em. Thank you again.

papasmurf 02-14-2014 06:22 AM

Be forewarned....

the plastidip glossifier really does not do very much to the finish of the standard plastidip...maybe a kind of satin finish at best. I have had it on my Sport Classic II's for about 5 months now and overall it has held up wonderfully (I took lots of time laying down about 5 coats of plastidip and glossifier each) but the shiny gloss finish I was wanting has never been there and from what I have read, other people have had similar experiences. It is a nice, cheap solution though if you are wanting to see how black would look on the wheels before painting them.

JAAY 02-14-2014 08:52 AM

Thank you for the advise. I saw that people were having trouble with the gloss. I just watched a tutorial on it and it seems that when laying down the gloss it needs to go on pretty heavy after the initial coat.

I have to say I like the look of these wheels a lot more on your car with the black finish.

One idea that just came to me would be to leave the lip grey/silver or even getting it refinished with a polished metal lip with the center black. It would come across as a more modern take on the Fuch wheel.

Sort of like this without the silver on the center spokes:

Something closer to this but with the more modern lines of the cayman wheels:

17": ORIGINAL PORSCHE BOXSTER WHEELS (own them right now)

18": ORIGINAL Fuchsfelge WHEELS (in my case with silver spokes), they look perfect on a 986 (will get them as soon as the manufacturer releases an official declaration on which tyres and spacers to use, estimated in march/april) --> i prefer the old school look rather than a modernized look :D

gonna look like this (see "Seal Grey thread")...can't wait

You have to use a lot of layers of glossifier and wait until each dries completely. And you'll get more bling if you couple the mettalizer over gold or anthracite after putting down a matte finish first. So it's like a many steps process, but pretty cool for a spray can.

Yup, definately would try to create something similar to Porsche's Fuchs Design on a dark car like yours.
