Sorry you missed the autocross yesterday at Rt. 66 Casino. It was a beautiful day and the lone Boxster was kicking the 911 butts hard. Chick car, indeed.
When I put my top down after the temp dropped to about 50 degrees last fall, the window cracked in two places. I asked the service manager at the Porsche of Albuquerque what my options were. He gave me the price for a top with glass, then told me he would recommend just getting the plastic replaced at Bearnut Upholstery (yes, that's their name. They're on Tennessee, just north of Central).
I did, and they did a really tidy job for about $500.
Here's my personal opinion on wheel color. The stock wheels on mine were also arctic silver, and it just looks bland. See my avatar. (I've gotten different wheels since.) I'd guess that's how you ended up with the black wheels: P.O. didn't like them and went for something with more contrast to the body color. I'm not a fan of black wheels, either, though, for the same reason: no contrast with the tires, so you might as well be running black steelies from a Volkswagen.
I suggest getting the wheels powder coated in gunmetal gray, somewhere between Arctic silver and black and, most important, approximately the color of brake dust. That's the color they'll end up being most of the time, anyway, so you might as well get a nice job of it.

Never expected porsche people would become offended soo easilly over something as small as it being called a girl car. Even on Autoshows they call it a girl car. Did you guys write letters of protest over it?

Offended also…. I'll give you a chance to redeem yourself. For now I've written you off too. I think you meant "whether" not "weather". Stay in school kid.

Actually I did mean "whether", not "weather" but my tablet decides what it thinks is best while I type on the go. Calm down.

Thank you. I was working all day so I could not attend. In fact last time I attended an Autox even was a few years ago at the church on Harper and Ventura. Its been a while since I've had a reliable car minus a few lifted Jeeps.
As for the color, Its mainly the flat black. I was looking through some photos last night and I do think I like the gunmetal gray color. With the car being silver, reminds me of the old Evolution VI RS450's color scheme. I was originally thinking silver just to get the original Porsche look back. Like this:

It's blatantly obvious that those you speak of in "your world" are not educated beyond the front stoop of their double-wide.
"Me go in straight line fast!" and "Turn left!". Takes some real geniuses, eh?
(Disrespect to those types is definitely intended)

:ah: I have hurled no insults. Just because the words girl car came out and that people laugh at boxsters. As I said in an earlier statement, the car is called such in many auto shows across the world. Goes hand in hand with the comment "What you couldn't afford a 911?" or "The car you get when you cannot afford a 911." I even heard the term "The boxster is the 914 of the future"... And I'm sitting here saying how much I've fallen in love with the car. Despite the insults my friends and previous fellow automotive enthusiasts and the purse I was given as a gag gift to go along with my Boxster.
Seriously, you guys need to chill. I've come here to learn, to meet new people in hopes to make my experience with the Boxster the best I can. Not to instantly debate and be harassed by what the ENTIRE WORLD of non Boxster owners see the car.

I looked over the Auto Tops Direct website and called customer service to find out about putting the glass top on a 2000 S. What has been the experience of the forum members when it comes to the need to service the air filter and you want to put the top in service position ?

OK, now that everything has settled down a bit, what say we get this young lad started on the right track.
Don't do anything to your new ride except maintain it at first. Like replacing the alternator, and getting the rear window replaced. Start a maintenance history record, starting with the day you bought the car; noting the mileage. Change the oil and oil filter; check the filter for metal particles. Replace the air filter (stock, resist the temptation to go K&N), and fuel filter. Check the cabin filter to determine if it needs replacing. Check the serpentine belt; check for signs that the AOS and water pump have been replaced. If not, budget and consider replacing them sooner than later.
Make sure your tires are up to spec and properly inflated. Ensure that all lights are operational. When you go blitzing around Albuquerque, you don't want to get stopped by Johnny Law just for having a bulb out.
Use only 93 octane fuel. Drive your Boxster as if it were a violin, not a hammer.
Read this forum extensively.
If this all reads like I'm opinionated, well then................I guess I am.
But then again, I'm just sayin'.........

Not really that young. I am in my 30s. I feel old... Lol
Anyway the drive it like you stole it plan... Doesn't work. This car is getting embarrassing fuel mileage. I calculated last fill up at almost 6mpg. There's no way my work van gets more than double but it is...

I had a friend come over with a scanner. His brother and cousin works for the local Porsche dealership service department.... It didn't show anything was wrong. This tank has some Lucas fuel treatment in it. Hopefully clean out any dirty Injectors. As for 93 octane. I don't know any places in abq that has anymore than 91. Any sort of higher octane is special buy from the local muscle shops. By the barrel.
Yesterday I found a link to someone here who lives by me who was having bad fuel problems but I believe I was IP banned... So haven't read on it yet. I did clean my K&N filter. It was bad. PO had grease all over it. In it. All over the filter holder frame. It took hours to clean.
