I know it's the 986 forum... but...
Porsche is coming out with the new Cayenne Turbo S. 520HP and 0-60 in 4.8 seconds. I love it, but at the same time I hate it. I mean... IT'S AN SUV FOR GOD'S SAKE!!!! Do SUV's really need to keep side by side with 911's? And is anyone else a bit bothered that Porsche will throw 550HP at an SUV, but won't give their mid-engine Boxster/Cayman anything over 300HP because of the 'precious' 911!?! I don't know wether to hug someone or cry. Pretty soon I'm sure they will have a mid engine SUV with 207HP, and superior handling. Kick ass.

Porsche sells boatloads of Cayennes. They are just giving the people what they want. Apparently they want stupid fast SUV's.

I'll take a stupid fast SUV. It is hard to fit the skis and assorted crap in a Box for the weekend. My dream arrangement would be a Cayenne and a Box!

Now you're talking! A Cayenne and a Boxster, what a combo. They should sell it as a package deal.
"Sire, would you like the Cayenne option with your Boxster?"

Yeah I would love to have a Cayenne Turbo. I know a lot think it is fugly but to me, a SUV that handles like a Porsche? That's a win win situation.

It is a truck.
I hate trucks.
Moreover, if one listens to the guys who own Cayeene's as they wait at the service dept., it makes it sound like they are a total piece of junk.
Makes one wonder.

I really don't know anything about the Cayenne (service history, piece of junk, etc). I think we are just commenting on the idea of a very fast vehicle that fit all of our crap in it. I have to drive 2 hours to ski and I would love to put my friends and skis in there and haul ass up to the slopes. I just like the idea.
If I am ever in a position to afford it, I would not hesitate to buy the Panamera or Panamerica (whatever the new four door is called). Driving a Porsche is awesome, being able to stick your friends in a share the experience would be even better.

Fugly? Ha! What a great word combination, and a true single-word oxymoron as well, of which there are precious few, if any!

Hi,
I think it's ironic that people will Bash and Malign a Boxster with Tiptronic S as not being a True Sports Car, degrading what a True Porsche is all about, all the while singing the praises of some Hyped-Up Truck on Steroids, simply because it has a Porsche Emblem.
For me at least, I think such folly demonstrates a certain degree of ignorance, but that's just me...
Happy Motoring!... Jim'99

Don't be so upset. I don't see any Cayenne doing anything to Boxster!. First turn they are on their side unless they have the optional anti turnover skids. It may go fast in a straight line! The world is full of curves. They can put 800 hp in there and still won't interest me. Driving in NY you realize how rediculous the 0-60 is. Whether its 5.5 seconds or 5.0 or 4.8 in the acceleration lane you are already over the speed limit with a state trooper waiting and loving to give you a ticket. They all have their quotas to give so watch out. Their dirty little secret of ticket quotas is out courtesy of Mayor Bloomberg. The city needs this blood money, or another indirect tax to you very much so. so much so it is a component of the city budget. They are like leeches and bloodsuckers making a living of drivers in NYC, Nassau County and so on. As rats they should be terminated or better yet relocated to the desert.

IMO it's two different beasts. I don't see either having anything to do with Porsche, rather having to do with sports cars and SUV's. Wether or not anyone likes or dislikes the Cayenne and/or the fact that Porsche makes it, it is still by all standards an SUV (though I'm sure SUV fanatics would argue otherwise). The Cayenne Turbo S is an SUV with rockets on the back. Is it a sports car? No. But I am half suprised there isn't a Dodge emblem with the Hemi logo on the side. Where as the Boxster is a sports car in it's purest form. Apples and Oranges.
That being said, my opinion has changed on Tiptronic in the Boxster. Where as I still don't like it for myself; if that's what others prefer, more power to them.

I'm not upset, I think it's great and amusing. Sarcasm is my sense of humor. Though I must point out, I do find great enjoyment that your post started with "Don't be so upset..." and ended with "As rats they should be terminated...", that is awesome.
As far as cops go, I think we should all relocate to Missouri, where you can have any speeding ticket taken off of your record by paying an extra 50-150 bucks to a "Traffic Lawyer". No joke. Though now that I don't live there, I have noticed I get a lot less speeding tickets, hrm...

I am glad Porsche makes the Cayennes because the more vehicles they make and sell the more revenue they will have for engineering and that will benefit us all.

I'd rather buy a Cayenne than any other SUV on the market, plus I like the fact that Porsche makes the fastest SUV (right?), rather than having some other company hold that title... BMW X5's and Mercedes AMG trucks are fast too, but I'm assuming the Cayenne Turbo S is better than all of these in speed/handling?
