Door Speakers - Max Depth 3" or 2 13/16"?

I plan on replacing my 5" Bose door speakers with 6-6.75" speakers. Looking at three options, which will become part of a 3-way system. I would like to purchase before dismantling door, but I would like to be sure whatever speaker I purchase will fit.

I have searched and searched, and the results keep coming back with either 3" / 76.2mm OR 2 13/16ths" / 71.4375mm.

It really makes a difference which speaker I can purchase.

My plan is to modify existing baffle and drill holes in the back to vent. Can anyone tell me the exact measurements, or tell me the exact 6"+ speaker you installed so I can check the depth.

Thanks

According to this document: http://images.wikia.com/boxster/images/b/b6/Boxster_speakers_update_article.pdf

Speakers of 3" depth or less will fit. I have not tried this myself, so take that with the proverbial grain of salt. You might want to check the specs of the speakers that the author used to see how deep they were.

I have not upgraded my stereo system yet but it is on my list. I found this info that might answer your questions. If you convert the MM to inches I think you will have your answer.
