Sorry, I've been off the site for a few days and have missed this thread. Congratulations JD! Extremely happy for you and like so many others, I think you made a very wise choice. We all know how much you have lusted after a Ferrari and it sounds as if you have made a very wise choice. Maintained to the level that I am sure you will, it will likely appreciate over time and in the interim, it makes for an incredible ride and the perfect dangermobile!

While I am saddened at the prospect of losing of losing your imput, incite and humor and while this site will never be the same, I wish you well. Forza Ferrari!

Brad

PS Wow JD, just checked out a couple of listings. No wonder one was given to the Vatican as a gift - at the prices an Enzo commands even they would have trouble affording one! If you can pull this off I think we now know the true identity of Johnny Danger - Thurston Powell IV! If not, I suspect we have been the subject of another very effective JD ruse and the rumors of your demise on this site are a bit premature. You do keep this site alive, JD!

southernstar 11-29-2013 10:33 AM

Anyone else here think JD is having a bit of fun with us? I mean, JD, have you thought about ordering a new Porsche 918 and saving several mil?

Brad

Mark_T 11-29-2013 11:29 AM

Thurston Powell IV -showing your age there, Brad! Next he'll be telling us that Ginger and Maryanne were the original Danger girls

Anyone else here think JD is having a bit of fun with us LOL! Ya think? I would have believed a 355, maybe even a 360, but I'm not buying this for a minute.

southernstar 11-29-2013 11:48 AM

I am indeed showing my age, Mark, but judging from his driving music selections I have little doubt that JD will know the reference. Regardless, I hope he is having a little fun with us as I would hate to lose JD from this site.

And JD, while based upon your past comments I still think you should buy a used Ferrari in preference to a new 981, I also think that you should hold off on selling the current dangermobile. While Ferraris aren't exactly a dime a dozen, they are still more common than your car. Lets face it, you have personalized your 986 S to the point where is is not only reflective of your individual tastes, it is virtually a one-of-a-kind.

You have already acknowledged that you will take a bath if you sell it right now. While that is undoubtedly correct, I have little doubt that the car's value has already reached its nadir and that over time, the supply of very low-mileage, well-maintained 2000 Boxster S's are going to drop dramatically. It is the first year of the S and with a dual-row bearing, probably the best of the 986's. Period. I think there is every reason to believe that prices will start to go up - expecially for an immaculate, tastefully upgraded example such as yours.

Hey Brad have you seen the price of 944T's lately? And the only thing special about jd's car is the 'I can't drive' low mileage. A body kit, wheels, exhaust and coilovers isn't exactly 'custom' these days.

Johnny Danger 11-29-2013 12:36 PM

Having a PPI done this weekend.

coreseller 11-29-2013 01:25 PM

Why all the hate from the Canooks?

Mark_T 11-29-2013 02:19 PM

Absolutely no hate! We all love JD but we know what a trickster he can be sometimes, so we're just a wee bit suspicious... ya gotta admit it's a bit of a leap to go from a $20k Porsche to a 1.2 million dollar Ferrari.

Who is it on here that says "pics or it's not true"?

Showing his age not only with the reference but also with the fading memory: It was Thurston Howell III. Tsk, tsk, tsk. Perhaps Southernstar posted that from his Pewlitt-Hackard computer? ;)

DBear

Mark_T 12-01-2013 04:47 AM

He musta got it mixed up with the name of his Boy Scout leader from back in the day.

I took it as JD would be # IV? Who knows, I could be wrong though, not the first time.

Johnny Danger 12-01-2013 08:21 AM

I got the results of the PPI on the Enzo today. Unfortunately, the tech at Fungula Motor Sports discovered a low windshield washer fluid reading during a durametric test, along with some light dust on spark plug wire #11. According to them, this can result in immediate engine failure. So my plans to buy the Enzo are out. :(

coreseller 12-01-2013 08:30 AM

Fungula Motor Sports.....aren't they in Zimbabwe?

kjc2050 12-01-2013 09:06 AM

What a farce.

I was thinking more along the lines of what fungula grows in!

Despite the disappointing outcome of today's PPI results, I have a new vehicle in mind to help me look beyond the Enzo. The seller says it once belonged to Gavin McLeod of the 'Love Boat' fame.

If you only drive it 200 miles per year, what difference does it make? Go for it!

Idaho Red Rocket 3 12-01-2013 08:01 PM

It is your color ! Order the 2014 Box. Get an S.

southernstar 12-02-2013 04:21 AM

Yes, BruceH I was deliberately calling him the Thurston Howell IV as the III is long dead. Anyway, not surprised that my little joke would be missed (or misunderstood) by some on this forum - afterall, how many were hoodwinked by JD? Again. good one JD!!!

If you are going for the Pontiac then hold out for the Mera:

Steve

Mark_T 12-02-2013 05:39 AM

I would love to find a good deal on a Mera in nice condition. I'd also settle for a well-done 308 kit on a Feiro. Don't think I'd want a real 308 though - seems to be a maintenance nightmare.

Steve

I'd resort to public transportation before I would drive that abomination. Worse, I'd even drive a bone-stock 986 over it. :p

southernstar 12-02-2013 11:36 AM

Johnny, say it aint so. You'd rather drive an unmodified Boxster than a Fiero in fake Ferrari guise? Now I know you can't be serious!

Just fooling. I love all boxsters !

JD, if some were taking you seriously, I wasn't one of them!

If this happens Porsche will have to have a change in nomenclature to "Danger Blue".

Truthfully, this began as a serious thread. But, 90k for a new boxster just doesn't make sense. :(

Maybe I'm stating the obvious, but you could always wait 2-3 years and buy a low mileage CPO 981 from a dealer with the Dangermobile as a trade in. Or sell it privately. You'd have that much time to get the price you want and I don't think the value of your 986 will depreciate at all.

To scratch your spending itch, you could always pave the road leading to your house, and get out and drive your Boxster.

Just sayin'..............

Good advice - except for the road. Unless someone on the forum wants to take up a collection, a two mile stretch into the forest with 750 feet of elevation gain just isn't possible. :(

JD, if you're really shopping for a new ride, maybe you should take a look at this one:

http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1386134314.jpg
http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1386134322.jpg

For a modest $25k

You speed around town and tell everyone that you're Steve McQueen reincarnate.

Steve Tinker 12-03-2013 09:11 PM

WooHoo - its just up JD's street, with its flat 4/5 motor & internal rollbar...
And it will handle the dirt road up to Schloss Danger without a hitch too.
Who wants an Enzo when you can have this dreamboat on your drive !!
