Chronometer on a 986?

.....well, not exactly, it's just an analog clock. Sorry for the poor quality pictures ;)

I really hope you didn't drill a hole in your dash for that.

LOL... of course I did... NOT! It's double sided tape (in case I changed my mind). :D

Perfectlap 10-18-2013 05:04 PM

a magic 8 ball would be better.

Rickinduncan 10-18-2013 05:25 PM

Amazing... Your new chronometer shows the exact same time as the stock digital clock.

Mark_T 10-18-2013 05:39 PM

I think it looks pretty cool. Be even cooler if it was backlit.

fatmike 10-18-2013 07:43 PM

wrap it in the carbon fiber tape?

I just threw up in my mouth a little.

evo-r 10-19-2013 04:30 AM

LOL... I guess this may end up as my desk clock eventually :ah:

Sometimes it's hard for me to hold back from making a wise *ss comment, this is one of those times..........;)

My guess is you were going for the Chrono Package look, if so and you decide to continue to pursue I suggest you find a stopwatch of sorts to insert;

My 2 cents...........It looks hideous and screams wannabe 911 GT3, helluva thing to wannabe though............

That was the intention but I guess couldn't be achieved for $20... at least I gained a desk clock out of this attempt.

The real kicker is most 911 guys find it hideous also, they commonly refer to it as "The Wart".

I still say I like it, but now I'm thinking that maybe using Grandad's mantle clock might not have been the best choice. A more modern clock face, or even a digital display would look a bit more appropriate.

I think you've got a good idea that just needs a bit of tweaking.

If you do a mod with the intention of asking for comments on how good it is...you did it for the wrong reasons. If you did it because you like it, than go with it and enjoy it. Personally, I would go with an altimeter since you car already has a clock.

i got the sport chrono thing too. personally i like the sport chono look and have thought about adding one. what you are looking to add looks a bit bulky; the sport chrono pod (or wart) is a bit more svelte and can be had on ebay but is a bit expensive. i think that the actual sport chrono clock is a complicated affair that is tied i to the car's computer so you'll never replicate that, but note that the sport chrono pod accepts any standard size gauge, so plx multigauges become a (very cool) option - tie into the obd port and can display four types of data with a press. lcd screen so they can be programmed to replicate your stock gauges (or grandpa's watch if you wish). there is a thread on it on *i think* 6 speed if you search.

let me be proud to say that i agree with mark t on this one.

The Radium King 10-19-2013 08:20 AM

... and what would be COOLER is some kind of track timer.

right now I use the cms app in my iphone - use a phone holder to mount it to the windshield and it shoots video, records lat and long accel/decel, position on track, track time, splits, etc. automatically starts and stops once speed gets over a set limit, can exchange info via Bluetooth, etc.

imagine a cayman wart with an opening in the front for a camera, and a gauge that displays all the above info. dumps the data to your phone/ipad at the end of the run. that would be great.
