Who to have Perform PPI

I am looking at an '01 Boxster S with 135,000 km on it. A two owner car, this guy has had it about 10 years and 115K of the mileage, so it seems to have been used consistently. From the pictures it looks great (and there appears to be a 911 in the background). The IMS has not been done, but he claims to have had it regularly maintained by one of the local Porsche specialists.

The question is do I use the same guy to do the PPI (and likely an oil change/filter cut) since he already knows the guy (and has told him he is a fool to sell it), or go to another specialist out of concerns of bias?

Thanks in advance.

If this car is <10k$, I would just buy it.

I wouldn't skip the PPI unless I was buying for parts... And I wouldn't use its regular mechanic for the PPI, because he may not be impartial.

I would definitely get a PPI including an oil change and have the filter cut open. There is no way to 'maintain' the IMS bearing and his claims re: maintenance mean zero without bills for the work that has been done. Oil change frequency is extremely important, especially for a car that has averaged less than 10,000 km a year - make sure it has had at least one a year.

Henry Costa at Refined Motorsport would be good choice and he is near Mississauga at the QEW and 427. Good luck!

PPI with a different mechanic and yes to the oil change and filter cut. Good luck.

What ^ said.

Never skip the PPI. Why? You have no idea what you are buying and repairs could be up to 50% of the purchase price. I bought a non-running Boxster and spent about $2K repairing issues that had nothing to do with the blown engine.
