Not my car but after dipping my fixed gear bike, I might consider giving this a shot on the Boxster. Pretty cool right?

I would add the PORSCHE decals in grey and leave my wheels in their high gloss gun metal finish.

Are you sure this is plasti-dip'ed? compared to the cost of a 3M vinyl wrap... which offers the very same look, PD is yet to be affordable mate

This stuff is so cheap now... A professional can do this small car for maybe $500-$700.
I peeled off a section due to some drip and all I can say is that this stuff goes on very thin.
You don't really need that much of it to cover a small car like this.

And if you think the matte look is passe now, they sell gloss and pearlescent toppers to go over the matte black/gun metal (anthracite) and regular silver.

I think you're right it's a wrap but compare to this link below. Looks like they have it down now. Very clean.

definitely matte... passed or not. Makes the lines of the car looks so smooth for some reason.

I see.... cheap indeed. Had the price of a many "spray cans" in mind ;)

They dipped the car on the main page for $500 cnd. Only took 3 hours.

Regardless, the job they do look fancy enough. I personally love the look, gets my look every time I see one (mostly vinyl but pretty same effect). Pcars with matte finishes somehow always look a tad more special than any other car

On the Boxster lettering on the trunk. Did they just spray over that too? I would want that to stick out in the Aluminum look that the Boxster S has. You couldn't stick it down to the Plasti-dip paint or it would try to pull off or maybe stag over time. I guess diligent taping would do the trick.

How do you wash a car that's dipped like this?

We have a member on one of the Corvette forums who just did his in ivory...get ready for this...5 1/2 gallons by can volume. I must say that the finish you got is equal to his work if not better. I think its a cool way to mix things up a bit and not harm the car.

with the black and glossifier. Unless the stuff that comes in the gallon cans is different I would not waste my time on trying to achieve a gloss finish with the glossifier plasti dip as it does not do much. My wheels look more satin than gloss. It is what it is, but you are not going to get a gloss, let alone a high gloss look from the plasti dip based on my experience and I did use about 5 coats of gloss over about 5 coats of black so it is not like I skimped on the product.

Yeah high gloss its not going to be ever. But leaving it matte looks entirely different than adding the gloss finish. The pearlescent and metallizers give it a little more depth. Matte is very flat looking.

The matte looks killer, but would be a pain to wash. :eek:

I'm down with some Plasti-Dip. I've done both sets of my wheels. 8 wheels=8 cans < $50. Oh hell yeah!

OK, I keep seeing more and more of this stuff being used. Whenever I think of "Plasti-Dip" I think of what you coat the handles of a pair of pliers in, so this is all somewhat new to me.

Is this a paint or a rubberized coating? If the latter, while the look is fantastic, do we really want cars coated in plastic?

How's this stuff hold up, long term?

its sprayable rubber but it goes on so thin that it looks like flat paint. If you add the pearlescent or metallics it will give a little more depth but still on the matte side, no deep wet look possible yet.

Long term, you probably need a garage. It needs to be washed with a special cloth but I've seen videos of people running it through a car wash without damage. If you add the gloss, it will leave a sticky finish according to my results so far not sure if other haves have had different experiences.

as I get closer to a respray i think of this all the time! looks super sexy!
my only issue is how the Plasti dip reacts to UV, I have tried 303 to keep it protected, but after a year (several coats of 303 throughout) my wheels needed respray.
If you like to repaint your car yearly then yes super cool otherwise I would consider a vinyl. just my .02

Anuone using it on their track wheels?? I have read a few posts on various forums believing that the heat generated from the brakes may be too much for the plastidip given how much of that heat is transferred through to the wheels....

And if you are using it on track wheels with no heat issues, what about it peeling off the lip when you go to mount/remount slicks every few wknds?
