I am getting my porsche and will post picks shortly, who cares if I have to buy a few parts? My brothers in law can fix anything, cars, big rigs even tractors. I know you think your looking out for me telling me not to get a boxster but your driving one?

I thought this was the 986 forum but it seems more like the over 56 and sensible forum with all the goofy talk. I wear skinny jeans and soon I "will!!!" be adding a neck scarf to the ensemble!

And to think, I used to wish I was still 22.......

I'll take 42, grey hair, a great wife, an awesome firearms collection, a couple of German cars, all the flyrods a guy would ever want, an historic home on a great lot, a full 2500 sq' woodworking and welding shop, and several rental properties any day. :)

We sound like a bunch of heroin addicts telling some youngster to stay off the needle.

But what you hear us really saying is that in order for us to become "functional users" of the Porsche high, we've made some sacrifices of time and budget that would have been inappropriate for our overall health at another point earlier in our life, and perhaps for yours now.

Since you are hellbent and determined, enjoy the rush! We'll see you on the other side of Porsche sobriety. But if you crash, literally or figuratively, and can't keep it going, expect to hear some tssk's and "I told you so's."

Welcome to Boxsters Anonymous, my name is Broke, and I am a Porscheholic...

nicecar 09-18-2013 05:43 PM

the car you want ?

again you said you wanted a car to burn out in stop lights the 986 is not the car for you.

NewArt 09-18-2013 05:56 PM

Ha ha, fun thread! My first car that I bought with my own money was a 65 Ford Country Sedan: 6 cyl. three on the tree. Lived in the country for a year after graduating. Never got stuck in 3 foot drifts (not enough power to spin the wheels!).
Now my 01 Boxster S pleases me all to hell! Bought it on a whim in California and imported it to Montreal, Canada. (I'm still working on my road movie, coming soon to Vimeo!)
Great fun doing upgrades in my junky garage, and yeah, it is a bit needy, but better spend money on that than fixing the roof! :)

RawleyD 09-18-2013 09:41 PM

LOL, Go get'em farmboy!

Don't listen to what these old farts have to say, you are going to love the car!
You're young and NOW is the time to make mistakes. :)

Just don't go burning out the tires, and stressing that 10+ year old engine, these beautiful machines deserve better than that! (You'll see what I mean once you drive it and learn to care for your baby) :)

RawleyD 09-18-2013 09:45 PM

Neck scarf.. love it! I'm getting a few of those too, and some driving goggles as well. :)

Good one...you had us going. But the scarf reference gave it away.

That last post from the polkfarmer tells his a troll, if I ever saw one..

Let's leave this thread for dead..

lol nah not a Madmods one! Although the OP's last post definitely fits in the scope of what M&M would say if deceived like the OP is at the moment.

To Polkformboy: I had your age and my philosophy remains; do what the hell you want as long as you don't physically hurt anyone. Live your dreams fully buddy. All of them... bright colour scarfs collection incl.

Nine8Six 09-19-2013 12:53 AM

Let's wait and see. I bet Polkfarmboy (and parents) has more cash than most of us here. I would also bet that his soon-to-be-his 986 should be one of the sickest around (e.g. supercharged, latest bodykit, ultra-light concaves, strait pipes, etc!). That'd be so funny.

Son of Madmods.... or whoever he calls himself now ?

You guy have all been pulled in again (apart from Perfectlap) - 51 threads and the guy still has you on his (laughing) hook !!

nguyendot 09-19-2013 05:28 AM

Howdy

So my best friend actually purchased the very first, first gen Boxster in Oklahoma City way back when (1997?). Anyways that is not the point of me joining. Let's just leave this here: I bought a Porsche on ebay without knowing nothing about it

And you will understand where I am coming from. My user name is same over there as here. This person is a new "troll", not the same one you accuse him of being. And yes, he's that hard headed.

The French Dude 09-19-2013 06:07 AM

Hmmm more and more Montrealers here :D

2) Is all my debt paid off?
3) Will I put $17,500 into my 401K/Roth 401K this year? (assuming you are under 50 y.o. if not, add another $5,500 for the catch-up)
4) Will I put another $5,500 into my self directed IRA account

Start doing and thinking this way, and you will be rich beyond your wildest dreams!:)

Can you do both 3 & 4 at the same time now? Or does #4 have to be a spousal IRA?

Thanks,

Steve

Ps. First car was a late 70's pinto wagon with no ac in FL. 2nd car was a 77 fiat x1/9 I bought for $500 working at McDonald's and my friend's dad helped me fix it up :)

Hey Steve, I am no expert, but, yes, you can have a company 401K/Roth 401K fund and max out at the $17.5. And you can stash away another $5.5 in an after tax self directed IRA account. No tax deductions for the the extra $5.5. Your spose can do the same, so yearly you can bank $46,000 away. If you turn 50 years old this year, add another $11,000 ($5.5 each) to the "catch-up" at your company's plan. For a grand total of $57,000.:)

RIGHT RANDALL?????????

This has to be Johnny Danger. He's been conspicously absent since Justin Bieber skinny jeans "I only have to $11K to run an out-of-warranty Porsche" came along.

p.s.
Nothing wrong with being young and driving a sports car. Thanks to a the car market there's a car out for every budget that is a fixture at every track day and atucross, you can have just as much fun in a Miata or Mustang as you can in Porshche. But going with an expensive to maintain Porsche before you can even get enough borrowed money to buy even new Hyundai Elantra (great car) is not really fair to the Porsche. It already got the short end of the stick by zee Germans with the IMS, AOS, coolant tank and some questionable cost cutting in the engine. And now you want to put the poor thing through low budget ownership and red light drag races? What kind of parents are you!! Mr. Skinny Jeans needs some American Muscle with plenty of airbags. Once his driving skills include actually turning the wheel left and right then maybe the Porsche's talents will not be lost on him. In order to appreciate a world class handling sports car, you need to experience other respectable cars first. Imagine if everyone drove a F458 MC? No one would know why the car is so good in the first place.

Well, if you're 35, polkfarmboy, you really like to bang your head on the wall. Buying a Boxster without seeing it in person first is just like playing the lottery (or the russian roulette). Well, please do tell us if you ended up buying a gem, or not.

Really Odd stuff mate, but nice find ;)

Haz, Perfectlap..... you both should go apply for a position in a police dept near you. Well spotted :o
