Best year boxster?

After Reading all the posts about bearing failures is there a year or years that were the worst or best for the dreaded IMS? Also does anyone know what percentage of engines suffered failure per year or model number?

Here are the latest figures from the Boxa.net survey:

Total cars covered: 196
Total IMS failures: 13
%age IMS failure: 6.6%

Engine Cars in Study Incidents of failure Failure percentage
986 2.7: 37 4 10.8%
986 3.2: 78 7 9.0%
986 2.5: 23 1 4.3%
987 3.2: 29 1 3.4%
987 2.7: 22 0 NIL
987 3.4: 7 0 NIL

Youngest car with a reported failure, 2005. Clear that the 986 2.7's and 3.2's are by far and away the highest risk with 987's low risk (only 1 reported failure and that in an early 987 S).

The data seems to indicate the double row bearing and larger single row bearing designs have similar failure rates.
