what method for lowering and bumperette delete? Side skirts?

Ian c 09-02-2013 10:47 AM

Lowering is a nos set of eibachs I came across .
I was going to use vogtland springs ..

Bumperette holes where filled using cuts from a 997 front bumper , welded in place using a soldering iron before filling and painting .

There are no side skirts ;)
I ran a strip of 1/4" pinstripe to give a line then the side stripes look level .
The body creases on the rear quarter are angled , so there is the choice of follow them and be angled , or put the stripes on level and look angled :D
The pinstripe just helps a little ....
I tried 1/8" first , but it was too subtle as the creases really show on lighter colored car .
I got the idea after trying up one stripe on the boxster , and the other on my 997 ... The 997 has a joint there where the sill cover meets the metal .

woodsman 09-02-2013 11:15 AM

from plain jane to one of a kind- nice work

jesseborgelt 09-02-2013 11:21 AM

Minus the obscene wheels that remind me of a diarrhea medication, it looks good.

woodsman 09-02-2013 11:26 AM

I can see a WHEEL difference!:D??!

:D
I'm a cal-look guy so the subtle mods done are my usual thing , but I'm kinda getting into the "in your face" wheels

Now you need to tie in those wheels with some floor mats.

Ian c 09-02-2013 11:36 AM

Lemme know how much you want for them ...
I take it they are in good condition and there are no holes from you driving in stilettos ??

:D

kls 09-02-2013 11:37 AM

There's 90 days you'll never get back.

particlewave 09-02-2013 12:11 PM

What the fudge, brownie!?! You'll definitely get some stares! :D

Don't let anyone try to tell you what's what...artistic personalization is never wrong ;)
At least, that's what I thought...

kjc2050 09-02-2013 12:16 PM

To each his own, I guess. I like what you've done other than the wheels, which to my eye are utterly hideous. If you're happy, that's all that counts.

Ian c 09-02-2013 12:19 PM

Iam happy .
So is The girl whose car it is ...

Well, I feel a little better. Enjoy.

Hayden 09-02-2013 01:29 PM

Well, I guess it's not completely obvious, but I assumed girls car, and a real head turner at that. Would love to see people's reactions on the road.

BYprodriver 09-02-2013 01:36 PM

Looks like the center caps are ready to bail...

Ian c 09-02-2013 02:00 PM

They are bolted in from the inside ...

Hahaha
:D

Fun car is fun .
Don't lose sight of what it's all about guys !!!

ekam 09-02-2013 05:29 PM

Now we need picture of the girl.

Nine8Six 09-02-2013 08:37 PM

You are missing something there.... not sure what it is. Try to find seat covers in PINK, I think the theme would look better if you can get this done.

RE Johnny's carpets, well.... forget about them ;) Those are the ones you need.... designed for the badgirl's 986.

Nine8Six 09-02-2013 08:41 PM

or maybe she'd prefer those ;)

husker boxster 09-03-2013 04:01 AM

So what was the issue that cause it to be marked Do Not Move?

Hopefully it didn't take you 90 days to do just the wheels?

Ian c 09-03-2013 05:04 AM

Haha
I thought about doing the stripes on the hoodbadge pink , but i doubt there will be anymore pink going on the car ... I know when to stop ;)
I don't want it to turn into a 917 or anything !!!

It had its issues , but there is a little more done than just wheels :)
I bought a tip-box off a racer on here .
The rest was mainly bodywork .
There was an issue with the wheels , then I had to have caps machined to fit them , and basically the rest of the time was waiting on parts .
This was never a rushed project ... I'm over that . I prefer to take my time these days .

I have no problem driving it .
i even drove it into tech inspection :D
I guess you just have to be a car guy who is secure in his sexuality ??

It gets a great reaction on the streets :D
We cruised pch yesterday afternoon then went to artesia for an Indian .
As well as the usual comments by other motorists at lights and pedestrians at the beaches etc we had guys on bikes and a few cars speed up just to comment and even had a car full of girls taking photos :D

Porsche Chick 09-03-2013 08:25 AM

Oh, boy.

I know a lot of women like that hot pink, but that's never been my color. I'm more of a traditionalist, especially when it comes to cars. I think my own personality should not supersede the integrity of the car. But, hey, that's me . .

To each their own . . .

Mark_T 09-03-2013 08:50 AM

Hoo boy, I don't think even Carson Kressley would been seen with those wheels! On the bright side, at least you won't need locking lug nuts. Did you consider painted the mirrors and side intakes to match?

But hey, as long as you like them, that's all that matters. At least you didn't do anything truly heinous, like trying to hide the amber on your headlights with black paint.

haz 09-03-2013 08:59 AM

Some people need to work on their people skills.. Be nice :)

Apart from a Mia part I ordered from Europe , the amber disappearing from the front is the final "visual" mod to this car .
Like I said earlier , I know when to stop ;)
I've lost my soldering iron so need to go buy a new one then it can be done this week . :)

Having said that , she wants her racing numbers bright pink , but they will be magnetic and not on all the time .

The integrity of the car :D

It's definately punk rather than country ;)

And her personality DEFINATELY would not match a tan interior ....

batshapedheart 09-03-2013 04:59 PM

As a straight guy who owns a pair of hot pink jeans, I think you are not done. You have too many colors going on, the black, the gray, the hot pink and then the red of the tailights...too much stuff going on. Stick to 3 colors at most. maybe you could consider doing the car only black and hot pink accents? There's some Dectane tailights that are all black too.
I bet if you mention it to your girl she will concur.
And is that the brushed titanium emblem logo on the hood? Awesome detail.

At the end of the day, we're all here just having fun with our cars, in different ways and manners, so, as long as they're not abusive, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and, isn't that part of the reason you posted the pics here?

Regards

Ian c 09-03-2013 05:20 PM

The idea was to do my usual style ...
Like I said earlier , I'm a cal-look guy ;)

I believe the American h20 guys call it OEM+ , which you may be more familiar with ??

Subtle mods using factory parts from another model or sister brand , or aftermarket parts that look "factory" ...
Or subtle things that have owners of the same car either do not notice , or ask questions like somebody did earlier about the side skirts I fitted .

THAT is a result to me !!
And you noticing the hood badge is a result to me too

The wheels kind of take away from all the work going on with this car and draw people's attention away from the mods done .

This is not a new thing .
I am European , and this has been going on for years over there .
It started off with race teams using different colored wheels for different tyre compounds and treads .... Some even tricking competitors by changing wheel colours mid race or mid season ;)
It's not my usual style , but definitely growing on me .
Especially among the sea of chromed and blacked out rims on every car in SoCal :D

With regards to the tail-lights being red , there is not much I am prepared to do about that .
Every aftermarket option I have seen looks far inferior to Porsches own 2003 lights fitted ( though they too have had a subtle mod)

Johnny Danger 09-03-2013 06:03 PM

Ian,

Have you never had a case of Pink Eye ? That might explain it.

M31 09-03-2013 06:16 PM

This is the only time in my life I wish I was colour blind...
