changing tiptronic shift plate and shifter - diy?

Hi everyone,
I bought a new silver tiptronic shift plate and a black leather, silver knobbed tiptronic shifter to replace my old set with was all black and looked a bit too plastic for my liking. My question is, is this a DIY project? If so, how? :dance:

Hi,

This is definitely a DIY Project. Proceed as follows:

● Turn Ignition ON

● Push Shift Lever Button and Insert a small Allen Wrench Up under the Button from below.

● Press down on the Allen Wrench to Pry out the Shift Button

● Underneath the Button (once removed), you'll find a Spring and Clip. Remove these (noting the orientation of the Spring) and lift off Shift Knob.

● Using a Plastic Pry Tool (or carefully using a Screwdriver) insert under the Base of the Shift Plate and Pry this off.

● Install New Shift Plate by snapping it into position

● Install New Shift Knob and reattach Spring and Spring Clip (again orienting it as before)

● Snap Shift Button back in place on New Shift Knob.

You're done - Total Time: 5 min. Hope this helps...

Thanks for this. Worked like a charm and always better than going to the dealership.

I found this octagonish black plastic piece that has a spring attached to it when I lifted the shift plate up. I only hope that it fit back into place as it should when I put the new shift plate back on.....

Everything seems to shift fine so I guess I didn't screw anything thing up....

What is the plastic piece with the spring in it anyway, and which way is it really suppose to face?

That's just a Spring Seat, if you reinstalled it like before... you're OK - Good Job!!
