noob question - 2003 base

I've had this car for 3 months now and don't drive it too aggressively. This past weekend we took it on a road trip and I noticed that when I accelerated quickly I seemed to get an added boost in power once the revs got over 4500- 5000. Almost like the power you'd get from a turbo, albeit not quite. Is this a feature of the varicam system?

I really enjoy this site, although I haven't been able to take advantage of the keychain threads, seeing as I only have the lowly arctic silver colour.

The valve timing changes around 4K RPM to provide better high rpm power. Porsche calls this Variocam.
