no longer a waiter . . . .

here's the thread regarding my bto 987 purchase:

http://www.986forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3822

well, my car came in about a month earlier than promised in mid-december. i was sick as a dog but went to pick it up right away; i was literally finishing the paperwork as the pdi was being completed. that first week sucked -- temps were relatively cold here and i was still sick with the flu so i didn't drive it much at all -- i just kept staring at it outside -- and when i did drive my symptoms made the breezes an unpleasant companion. then i had to leave the state to visit my mom for christmas. needless to say, the first few weeks of ownership were a bit of an anti-climax, through no fault of the box, of course.

the last few weeks have been a blast. i love driving this car. coming from a 330i, the first thing i noticed is that this car doesn't sway. on the 330i, slamming the throttle makes the car slightly tilt back; when taking a curved onramp or corner you can feel the chassis shift a tad onto the outside of the turn. in fact, you try to initiate this shift smoothly but firmly to plant the tires. not so with the box. this thing is rock solid. there is no feeling of the chassis shifting around. it stays flat and tight. sweet.

at first i thought the ride a alot harsher than the 300i, but now i think it's only slightly so. looking over the curved surface towards the headlight visibly exaggerated the bumps for me -- now that i'm used to it the ride feels "frisky" rather than harsh, even immediately after driving my 330i. of course, it handles better (stays flat, more feedback from the wheel) and is noticeably faster than the 300i. i like the frisky ride -- did i mention i absolutely love driving this car?

knock on wood, there have been absolutely no problems yet, save for the windstop rattle (only at city speeds for some reason) and, occasionally, the mirror whistle. both are easy fixes, i know, thanks to this site.

i love the color combo. as for the options, i'd say they were all worth the price. again, this car is as follows: base '06 987, seal grey/sand beige/black top. bose w/stop, xenons, heated seats, sport wheel, sport seats, chrome pipe, auto climate.

so thanks again to all the contributors to this forum; i love this place. here's your pix:

Very nice. I didn't notice an "S", but it looked as though you got a split exhaust...?

I just got my vin number and am anxiously waiting for my own delivery.

He ordered it with the chrome tip. Costs about $340 (code XLA). The 987 and 987S have the same exhaust. Just different tips.

Congrats! I wouldnt have thought to put the sand interior with the seal gray exterior. Had you seen that combo somewhere or did you take a shot in the
dark ordering..
Excellent choice on equipement...
manual trans, heated seats, xenons and upgrade exhaust!

best of luck
and drive safely..

your tires are oozing milk!!!
LOL
try 1Z rubber and vinly care on your tires and dash. It leaves a nice dark matte finish on your tires. First saw it used on a Ferrari 360 and have been using it ever since. 1Z leather care is also excellent for red and tan leathers (no gloss).

Chrome tip $350? Holy Shise that's how much I paid for my entire cat back exhaust on my old Miata. Best thing I did to that land shark. What a great sound when the ignition key was turned.

Great looking car! I know I love my '05 987. I have to agree, the handling is what sold me on it.
