Cold Start Question

Dear Boxster Owners
I experience an dry metal noise for a first second, then the engine is cold started. Does it happens because of luck of oil, or oil is completely goes down. How to solve this problem. I changed recently to 10w30, because of the winter cold weather here and toward the winter naps. What will be your sugesstions?
thank you and happy new 2-98-6 year.

I had that for the first time after the car sat for about 2 weeks and the weather here turned cold. It was very disconcerting but I don't see any way around it since we can't pre-charge the oiling system. The best we can hope for is that synthetic leaves enough of a layer that the noise isn't the result of too much wear and tear.

You should use Mobil 1 0W-40 in your Boxster.

10W30 is actually harder on the car at startup.

The noise is normal, not to worry!

Porschev, yes, Brucelee is correct. You should run the Mobil 1 0W40 year round. The 0W40 will be much better upon cold weather start-ups vs. the 10W30. It will flow better/faster and possibly eliminate that metal sound.
