Happiness is buying a Boxster

So I spent Sunday morning flying from central Florida to Georgia to buy Travisn706’s white 2001 S. After an inspection and test drive the purchase was made. Travis - thanks so much for making this a great buying experience. This is my first Boxster and my first Porsche. The drive home was so nice. The only issue was my back not being shaped to fit comfortably in the seat on an 8 hour drive.

When I went to Afghanistan last year I didn’t know for sure what car I wanted when I returned. I had always had the thought in the back of my mind that it would be cool to someday own a Porsche. I had been driving a ’93 Miata for the past 6 years as my daily driver. I sold it when I deployed. Originally I had been thinking about a 4 seat convertible, maybe a BMW, Mustang or Volvo. Then I thought “a 911 Cabrio has four seats, how much are they going for used”? They were a little on the high $ide and the back seat wasn’t really that useable. That got me to thinking; I really don’t need a back seat. The kicker was talking to another civilian in my unit, Jim. Jim’s got a ’01 S and loves it. He said to consider one. I did and the rest, as they say, is history.

I want to thank the members of this forum for all your help. I’ve been lurking on here since November and have found the insightful comments and technical information invaluable in my decision to buy a Boxster. And finding my car on here was just icing on the cake.

Less than 48 hours in and I love this car. I look forward to hanging out on this forum and all of you helping me to keep this thing working probably.

p.s. The Atomicblue99 comes from my first new car, an ’84 Dodge Omni GLH, nicknamed the Atomic Blueberry.

Bought my 2000 S last August and I can say that a big part of the fun is learning something new about your car all the time and the great fellow owners on this forum!

No, I think it is both buying and driving a Boxster. Buying covers the thrill of actually owning one - being able to look longingly at her, knowing she is yours.

Atomic, thanks for your service and cheers to the good motoroing ahead!

You asked for some pictures. All I have so far are my iPhone shots from the drive home.

Rick,

Congratulations! I ran across that car late last week. It was so far away, and you were already set to drive in on Sunday, so you beat me to the punch. I think you got a great car for a great price. Enjoy.

Thanks for your service.
