986 hardtop fitting

Hi, does a hard top fit all the 986 or is there a difference by the year? I saw an ad saying for sale a 2000 and up and I have a 99 so I wonder what's the biggest difference, thanks

Garage
Any hardtop for the 986 will fit any year, meaning a 97' will fit an 04'. There are two versions of the hardtop MkI, which has "ears" for a transport system, and MkII, which has no ears.

Boxster Hardtop "Ears" - 986 Series (Boxster, Boxster S) - RennTech.org Forums

Is this what you are looking for? Supposedly only on 1997 and 1998 (Google is your friend).

Yea now I get it, I'm gonna buy the one without the ear I assume since it's for 00-04. And can I remove the whole soft top completely to save weight?

You could remove the soft top to save weight, but I don't think most people do. You would only be saving about 45 pounds and you would give up the flexibility of having the convertible top available.
