Great improvement on looks and there is more to come. Im waiting for stuff in the mail so as I receive them I will post the pics.

V-Rod 05-31-2013 06:31 PM

They caps are a big improvement. That's quite a bit of curb rash all around the edge. I think there are some companies that can renew that for you. I need to do my center caps as well at some point.

Bryan topping 05-31-2013 06:33 PM

And paint those lugbolts!! :)

Bmod986 05-31-2013 09:27 PM

Curb rash was caused by an a******** who came on to my lane full speed without warning so I mounted the curb to avoid getting hit. I explained this in one of my previous threads. But it doesn't bother me as much any more. Eventually I will fix it.

As for the lug nuts I will eventually get new ones. I have been trying to get a set since I got the car but other more curial parts need to be replaced. And considering the massive amount of time and money I spent on the last repair I have to wait a bit for them.

Wret 06-01-2013 04:50 AM

I just got what appears to be exactly the same caps in the mail yesterday. $19 for mine!

I replaced some ebay cheapos I bought a couple of years ago. The old set was always loose and and seemed like they would fall out. The NEW ones are VERY tight.

If your caps are in good shape you can just replace the emblem also.

Here is one of the listing, but make sure you buy the correct size badges for your cap.

who makes that stuff ? Aren't those things trademarked? You guys are so brave-I'm the world's biggest skeptic and would assume they'd disintegrate soon after I installed them and would have no recourse to get my money back. Hell, it's tough enough to get a refund with big, KNOWN companies, let alone these never-heard-ofs. I've come to believe, at 48 yrs. that Porsche (or Toyota ) makes the highest quality parts for my Porsche and that they'll LAST the longest ( with a few exceptions of course- LN anyone?) and give me the best value in the end. After all, it's quality in design and execution that makes the Boxster what it is - isn't it? Not knocking anyone, just questioning out loud...

particlewave 06-01-2013 02:29 PM

I think we can cut some costs on things like center caps. They're not exactly high precision parts ;)

I paid $12 shipped for my center caps and they are excellent. I figured that if they were crap, I'd only be out $12, so why not? :)

Well the center caps were cheap enough to indulge in. I want to buy the spacers along with the lug nuts so it would cost around $320 from RSS. I did order other stuff though, I needed two new coil packs and three spark plugs so ya.

As far as y I bought these center caps in particular. I spent a few months debating how they would look, what would be the quality, and if they will look oem. And after receiving them I can say its all good. I love them. The seller was autotecpartsusa on Ebay

I checked my eBay account and I paid $22, not $12...oops
Still cheap, though.

Mine look exactly like the set you bought, except they are monochrome(silver/black). I'm very happy with the quality and fit.

Kenny Boxster 06-01-2013 09:59 PM

I have bought Ebay center caps myself. Have to say I am very pleased and satisfied over the past 5 months.

Brockmeister 06-02-2013 09:53 AM

I bought a set in march from ebay. 24bucks I think. They look a heck of a lot better than the originals.

mnc-i 06-03-2013 06:22 AM

I purchased a set of those colored wheel caps to replace the black & white caps I had. For less than $25.00, I cannot complain.
Bmod986, as for the curb rash. You should of seen the 17inch OEM turbo twist wheels on my 99 Boxster when I bought it. The guys who owned it before me never missed a curb (all four wheels were so bad, that when I went to get tires the dealer made a point to highlight how beat up they were).
I about a year ago purhased four OEM 17 inch wheels with four brand new tires mounted for $420.00 from a guy in Dallas.

Cheers,
MNC-I

I used to think that too until I got new tires for my 2007 Toyota Tundra last fall. I took the truck to Costco and when they removed the center caps, all four disintegrated. They paid for the replacements to the tune of $160.

Bmod, the new caps look great!

mikesz 06-04-2013 05:05 AM

I bought a set off ebay with painted centers $35 they look great very satisfied.

HELLAS59 04-10-2016 10:32 AM

Hi guys, anybody know where I can get just the Gold emblems for cheap that will fit in the recessed part of the actual caps? I dont want to spend 200-300 for originals, my caps are fine, just the emblems are faded. I have the original "twist" Alloy wheels on my 986 Boxster. The emblem measures approximately:

Width (Top part widest) 1 7/16"- 1 3/8"

Height (Furthest point) 1 7/8"

If anybody knows where, can you post a link on here? I looked on ebay, and a coupoe of places sell them, but they are of a bigger variation. Thanks in advance guys!

Just buy the replacements off eBay. Why would you want to mess around with glueing new crests and hoping they stick. Gezz for $25 get the ones off eBay.... I did that 2 years ago and they look great. I did spray a coat of clear coat on them just to make sure they were fully sealed.

HELLAS59 04-13-2016 09:05 AM

Rob175 pleaseeeee point me in the direction of the $25 ones on eBay. I will buy them right now! If you can post a link on here that would be great. All I found were $100 used ones with the emblems faded. Please guide me my friend as that is one of the last things I have to do to "restore" my 986. Thanks in advance! Awaiting your reply anxiously..

I didn't put much time into follow-up, but this:

http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1460567983.jpg

Gave me this as the second and third items:

http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1460568045.jpg

I don't even need them but I'm ordering the 19.99 ones because I'm still mad at the tire shop guys for losing my Porsche crest valve stem caps (FREE Item). I will clear-coat them before I install.

...then this shows when I check out:

HELLAS59 04-13-2016 12:17 PM

Hey guys, thanks for the links but I already searched on eBay and sent the deluxe-choice user a message asking if any of those caps would fit my 1999 original stock Twist alloy wheels and he said that they dont sell caps with crests that will fit a 1999, only the 2005 models onwards. Maybe he didnt understand the question well. Can anyone send me a direct link to the $20 caps with gold crests on eBay that will FIT into my cars wheels? Again, I have a 1999 base Boxster with the Silver metallic "twist" wheels...Im a second owner but those should be the stock wheels right? I took out the wheel cap and the part number is: 99336130310

They dont have to be original oem caps, just something that fits! I actually prefer the generic cheaper ones because they look like they have a bigger crest which I like!

Thanks in advance fellas..I really appreciate it!

Thumper 04-13-2016 01:01 PM

These fit fine, but take a few weeks to arrive from China.

or these you can have within a week (they are the same as the China made ones)

IIRC, all the factory boxster wheels use the same wheel caps

Thanks for the links Thumper! The ones that ship from the US are sold out it says on the top, so I sent them a message as to when they will restock. If they dont reply soon I may just go ahead and order the Chinese ones. Are they both pretty much the same thing? And you are 100% sure that they will fit and match the color of my stock "twist" wheels from my 99 Boxster? I've attached a few photos so you can see exactly what kind of wheels I have and what the cap/crest situation actually is. Thanks for the info JayG, will keep that in mind. So all of them are the same size for the wheel caps?

911monty 04-13-2016 02:24 PM

Painting those lug nuts will add as much bling to those wheels as the caps......IF not more.;)

HELLAS59 04-13-2016 02:58 PM

Thanks for the recommendation 911monty, but its already in my plans to paint or just replace all of them :) Im also going to sand and paint some portions of two of the wheels that have some curb rash. Was reading a nice article where some Bmw guy had an entire write up on how to do it. OFF TOPIC..but does anybody know the spray paint brand and color I could get to match these wheels? Thanks in advance guys. I need to get these wheels back into shape, and I think the wheel caps the lugnuts, and the sand and paint on the curb rash will really make the world of a difference! PS, any lug nut sets for these wheels that anyone can direct me to would be great..

Thumper 04-13-2016 02:59 PM

They will fit those wheels just fine

Thank you Thumper, you're the best bro! Im gonna go ahead and order them. (the Chinese ones) Im assuming they will match the wheels too (the silver part of the cap). Thanks to all of you for your help, suggestions, and guidance 👍🏻

Thumper 04-13-2016 03:16 PM

The silver matches. They are pretty sturdy for plastic center caps. I was impressed with the quality for so little money.

HELLAS59 04-13-2016 03:46 PM

Thank you for all the info Thumper. I will go ahead and place an order now so I can get them as soon as possible. Thanks again and God Bless you!

jakeru 04-13-2016 09:26 PM

I recently picked up the $20 eBay set - very impressed, looks like OE quality to me (except without the Porsche packaging, despite one of the pictures showing the Porsche box, which is a bit misleading).

They do have the "P" logo and part numbers on the back, also.

The concave dish sets in the 986 wheel a bit more recessed than the original style 986 center caps, but color matches and still very happy.

I did trim a small bit of plastic flash around the edges of the center caps, but it wouldn't surprise me if this is also on genuine Porsche caps. (I think I've spotted it on other Porsches before.)

The "free" valve stem caps that are also included with the $20 eBay set, however, are not even close to genuine Porsche. (Those are what you'd consider a "China special".)

Deserion 04-13-2016 10:17 PM

Admittedly i was a center cap snob the last time one of these threads rolled around. :o However, I've changed my tune and I ordered the $19.99 eBay set w/ stem caps. I figure they'll look way better than the beat-to-crap OE caps I've got on now. I'll see if they'll possibly fit on the Design 90s on the 964.

New center caps

Thanks JayG. So this paint will match my original stock wheels 100%? I plan on sanding the curb rash areas down and then applying a filler followed by a few coats of the wheels matching paint. If you or anyone else can verify that this is the one, then I will go ahead and purchase it immediately. Thanks in advance guys.. [emoji1303] Also, any advice on wheel restoration/touchup would be much appreciated. Thanks! I will def tell Tom that Jay sent me. Should I call them up when I order tomorrow? I just need 100% verification that this will match my wheels perfectly..

Wheel repair silver paint

I had a few paint chips on my '02 wheels so I pulled out the "Silber Spray" paint (Einszett 970330) that I had been told was the right one to use with Boxster wheels. I just shot the chipped area, not the whole wheel and was amazed that the area I sprayed blended right in. I could see a little evidence of the original scratch but couldn't see where I had sprayed.
So, if you sand the problem area correctly I think you'll have straight forward repair with Silber spray. Good luck. Tom
