The radio will go into wait state and depending how many times you entered the wrong code it could lock you out for a few hours. Just leave the radio powered on and the message will time out.
Try 6949 first and if that fails use 6948
Cheers

Happy Thanksgiving Canadian style (in our family we'll do this again the end of Nov...haha)
Good thing because I like turkey
Your code should be 7161 and if that doesn't work try 7150
Some of these units come up with two options although the primary one
usually works.
Cheers

Thanks for the quick reply. I tried both codes, but they didn’t work. Would it make a difference if the radio came from a 996?

No shouldn't make a difference as the headunits are the same...
I just ran your make and serial again and those numbers 7161 or 7150 are correct
according to the code cipher.... everyone once in a while I seem to get a discrepancy. So you may have to contact the dealer for this one...
Sorry, but that's all the info I can get you

2189 should be your code - if that doesn't work try 1187.
Cheers

Hello all. Am new to the forum. Relatively recently acquired a 2001 986 S. Have been working on getting it road worthy again as past owner left it sitting in his garage for past 3 years. Looking for the radio code for the cdr 220 radio. There is no book with car and not hand written on underside of the frunk and the serial number under the hood is YU663209. Any help would be much appreciated!

I just purchased a 2000 Boxster S. It came with option 696 - CD-radio Becker Porsche CDR-220. Unfortunately the PO replaced the head unit with some crazy Alpine head unit. I'd love to put everything back to stock.

Does anyone have a line on an original Becker CDR-220?

(I didn't read all 11 pages of this thread, sorry if this has been asked/answered)

The code for your radio based on the serial you provided should be '8270'
Cheers

Check some of the local classifieds on the forums as well as ebay there is tons of them around. The stock radio doesn't have the greatest features but its nice to keep it all stock :-) Good luck, try to find one without the sticky knob issue - some of the rubber coated buttons go sticky, which is not very nice...
