I am switching to an "S" muffler on my 2.7l, are they any lighter or will the sound be any different? I am switching just because I like the dual tips, just was not sure if anyone had done it and liked it better.
I have both - they are the about same weight. I like the single opening look, a la Lamborghini Murcielago. I thnk the Boxster base muffler sounds better with the bigger opening...and even better once I modified it. If you want the dual exhaust look but lighter weight, then you'll need the aftermarket mufflers, not OEM.
I'm pretty sure that I have seen ads for just the dual tips that you want. This would be cheaper and quicker.Your local muffler shop could remove the single and weld on the duals.Look and see.On my stock 2000 S, it looks like a simple weld.
I purchased an after-market muffler from Ebay for my 1999 Boxster. It sounds great was under $300.00 with/shipping and my local exhaust shop installed it in under 2-hours (had to wait for the exhaust to cool down).
The best thing about the new muffler besides the sound, is that it weighes about half as much as the factory muffler and my rear trunk no longer cooks whatever I leave in it.
What do you mean by Charlie Chan? The company that made my muffler had nothing to do with Charlie Chan. Are we not better than that?
