Hardtop Side Latch

When I took my hardtop off a few weeks ago I seem to have broken the pin that connects the lever to the spike. I have tried replacing it with both a nail and a rivet, but both have broken when I tried to put the hardtop back on.

Has anyone else ever broken this, and more importantly have they managed to fix it? I am not keen on buying a new latch if there is a fix for this that I have not thought of.

Yup.

Replace it with something harder, like a mini-screwdriver shaft and make sure it's as large a diameter as possible. Then adjust the mounting plate so it doesn't require so much force to rotate the lever.
