Loosing the old spare tire...
Besides needing to loose some weight, I took out the spare and can't believe how much weight that is and how much more room there is!!
Is it shameful to even consider not putting it back in while city driving??

I don't have a spare in my 914. 11 years of driving in my life and 1 flat tire - and that's with a ton of off-road driving too. With roadside assistance and free towing through insurance - I'm content without a spare.

Funny you should mention that because I think the 986 is the last car to have a fullsize spare. I'm out of town daily--actually perpetually rural, otherwise I'd love to lose 32 lbs. That red wheel is super- slick though.

I wouldn't mind losing the old spare tire, unfortunately it has nothing to do with my car.

After losing the old spare tire you can lose additional weight by removing the old ball and chain.

I dumped the red spare tire a long time ago and replaced it with a can of tire sealant.

I too have the "full size" donut tire and the only way I'd give it up is to replace it with a AAA towing service. A can of sealant just wouldn't cut it. The last three flats (two seperate cars) I had all included sidewall punctures. No can of sealant will fix that. FWIW, these were all in-town issues too.
Twice I had AAA repalce the tire witht the spare and then drove off to a tire lacement center. Once I had to remove the tire and get a replacement mounted myself (before AAA). I don't want a car without a spare unless I have some type of roaf service to get me back on the road ASAP.

I'm keeping my spare. Actually, I just topped-off the air pressure on it tonight.
A few weeks ago I had to use the spare in my E320, which is genuinely full-sized. I ended up replacing all five tires on that just to have a good baseline.
