Driving Music
Im shocked no one has posted about this before, what are you favorite driving tunes? I am looking to make a new driving mix. I am open to any suggestions of any genre.
Here are some of the tunes off my last mix Sharp Dressed Man by ZZ Top Legs by ZZ Top Gimme All Your Lovin by ZZ Top La Grange by ZZ Top Dragula by Rob Zombie(Hot Herman Remix) My Favorite Game by the Cardigans He Going The Distance by Cake One by Creed Unforgiven by Creed |
'twas done before long ago, but it is one of the least repeated topics (as opposed to how to clean the rear window ;))... check out http://986forum.com/forums/boxster-general-discussions/369-boxster-music.html
|
cleaning the rear window...one of my favorite topics! I think we should repeat that on a regular basis.
|
I favorite driving tune is:
turn the radio off and listen to the car! |

I think this topic is can be brought up again, as music and musical preferences are always changing... although the list above looks rather... dare I say, old school (ZZ TOP? [no offense]). I'm 28, so my list may be different... I don't care for Techno music all that much, but when I'm driving... I can dig it. I try to time the stripes in the road to the uber-fast beats, yo. Also, my list changes whether or not it's day or night, AND whether or not I've got the top down or the hard top on. Plus my current musical phases play a big part of it. Currently I enjoy Death Cab for Cutie (It's not as bad as it sounds), Newsboys, and The Killers. How about Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car - Billy Ocean Can't go wrong with that song! Ooh, this is a good time to plug www.allofmp3.com. Does anyone here use this? I love it! Buy entire CDs for a little over a dollar! If ya pay for it, it MUST be legal, right? (Thank you Mother Russia.) |
I am only 18 and listen to ZZ Top and have been since I was 16. Great music can be enjoyed by all generations.

Anything by:
Dire Straights Bachman Turner Overdrive Eagles Beach Boys Van Halen I will think of more later. |
To each his/her own...but I agree, something about ZZ Top and that old school rock coming out of a Porsche....ouch.
Now I am 38, and have actually seen ZZ Top live, but tend to gravitate towards the modern alternative stuff. I like to keep up with the times and enjoy the likes if Franz Ferdinand, Green Day, Death Cab For Cutie (folkish and quite mellow...you'd be surprised), Foo Fighters, Jack Johnson, and the world's greatest rock and roll band of all time.............U2. As a matter of fact, I just had a new Kenwood head unit and MB Quart system put in my '97 Boxster and am loving this new level of sound. Next up...a new amp and perhaps a subwoofer! WOO HOO! RIDE |
Any good music - I have pretty varied tastes, probably non-Porsch-ish, but here goes:
THE Boxster song for me: Green Day/Holiday. Always played before and after track. Interstate/freeway music: All the way from Nat King Cole to Allison Krause & Union Station to Keith Urban to old REM stuff. Variety is good. Easy listening music helps me keep the speed down and avoid tickets. If I put on rock, the go pedal tends to go down farther. ZZ Top is good, "Legs" is a old favorite and the video had the cool red car in it. And a good bit of the time: Engine sounds only. I am looking at getting an iRock FM transmitter for the MP3 player - only $40 so if it's static-y will post & let you know. |
This isn't a comment on personal taste - no offense intended to anyone, but.......
These are the funniest set of posts i've eva read here! Miserable monday morning in Manchester, UK. It has even started snowing, should be a good ride home:) Thanks guys, keep em comin' |
Any album by "Skillet" adds 20-30 mph to the speedo. :D It's the reason cruise control is a must.
Great website at http://www.skillet.com/  |
How 'bout "Jesus Take the Wheel", by Carrie Underwood?
Particularly after grabbing that 55mph freeway on-ramp at 85. |
I've taken to blaring Pavorotti's Wedding Songs as loudly as I can tolerate while driving around town with the top down. It really makes everyone around me think I'm rich and snooty.
Then when no one is around I crank up La Grange by ZZTop, my favorite song in the whole world. In fact, the day I bought the car I knew I had to crank up some tunes from my home town band with the top down. Creed is also good, and I also like Nickelback, but the lyrics are often so offensive I can't listen to them although the music itself is excellent for downshifting through corners :) |
Shouldn't the correct answer be (D) Any opera by Wagner? Or is that reserved for the 911 group? :D
|
I have to admit that I am a little surprised to see so many ZZ top fans driving Porsche. I guess I'm a little senesitive since I get a lot of comments when I drive my PT crusier (j/k).
My boxster build date is in December and I will likely install satellite radio (XM, I like top tracks 45, and Deep tracks, 40), but I think I'll probably keep a few Phish cds (Hoist, Round Room and Farmhouse), some Tenacious D and some Bob Segar. Wait! I think I just filled up the trunk! (j/k). Of course, Steely Dan is a must too. On a side note, I was a little surprised a few weeks ago. The Dalai Lama spoke at a Neuroscience Conference in Washingto DC and before he spoke, the lecture hall pumped out Steely Dans' "Two against Nature" cd all the way up to "Cousin Dupree". I wonder if the Lama is a Dan fan...? |
Tenacious D out of a Boxster? What is this world coming to!
|
I'll be sure to mix in the London Philharmonic Orchestra playing the tunes of Pink Floyd with the Tenenacious D.
|
I love slow jazz & pop so I usually play babyface and fourplay. The babyface's newest album (grown & sexy) is quite good IMO.
|
Goodness I am finding this post to be most bizarre! While most of these tunes can be classified as "good music," it doesn't seem to favor the sophisication that one would expect from German Car Enthusiasts.
Is it just me, or do some of these seem PERFECT for a Camaro? Yeah, yeah, yeah, "to each their own" "diff'rent strokes" and all that jazz... but which one doesn't belong? |
If we stick to the Box's German roots, I supposed Wagner is the only way to go!
 |
Two of my personal favorites, in addition to anything by Wagner, Mahler & Strauss (no waltzes, tho) are:
Kraftwerk (especially Europe Endless & Trans Europe Express) and the Eurythmics' Love is a Stranger In An Open Car |
I agree with Jeph and the others that ZZ Top should only be played if your Boxster is equipped with a gun rack.
http://tinypic.com/i23r4g.jpg That being said, my Ipod does have a playlist reserved for high-speed or top-up driving so that others are not subjected to trashy but good driving music like: Hungry Like the wolf - Duran Duran Journey - Separate Ways Take Me Home Tonight - Eddie Money If any of you guys like trance, I'd categorize the following as good to drive to: The Beach - ATB Communication - Armin Van Buuren Delerium - The Silence - Paul Oakenfold Tell Me Why - Paul Van Dyk Ready, Steady, Go - Paul Oakenfold or non-trance: It's No Good - Depeche Mode Gangsta Party - Tu-Pac, Snoop Dogg (when you're driving in the 'hood') She Sells Sanctuary - The Cult (your stereo had better be good) Thunderstruck - ACDC Where the Streets Have No Name - U2 If I had to drive to one CD for the rest of my life it would be Tranceport , mixed by Paul Oakenfold |
Gotta go with U2. My wife tried to bring a Madonna cd into the car...she was properly chastised and schooled on what will and will not be played in the car. Anybody go to the U2 Vertigo concert this year? Didn't think it was as good as the last one.
|
I saw U2 this year. I thought it was a good show. Haven't seen any other U2 shows but they sound great live, unlike... (ahem) Counting Crows who can't seem to hit the right notes when I've seen them. Additionally, Bono really inspires me to vote.
|
Who needs U-2 give me an ultralight
U-2 difficult plane to fly, great design by Kelly Johnson from Skunks work. Bono too full of himself with world politics an arena that he has no expertise. Nice to preach to forgive debt to 3rd world countries maybe he should sell his villas and jet plane for those countries.
Foreigner- Hot blooded Stones- Sypathy for the Devil Doobies-China Grove Kinks-Superman Steely Dan- Deacon Blues Dire Straits-MTV 10,000 Maniacs- About the weather |

Don't pick on my boy GWB!
 |
Jeph, that was a hell of a good recommendation on that Allofmp3 site. Gracias !
My only concern was that it seems like 50% of all evil on the Net comes from Soviet servers but the site seems pretty robust to be just a vehicle of bad intent. No problems so far with my comp, I guess that KGB spyware integrates seamlessly. Their music library is pretty insane, and has been able to meet even my most obscure searches. The prices are obviously great, but I'm sure they're making a mintload in rubles albeit a few pennies at a time. |
Need for Speed Soundtracks
The game soundtracks are a blast to listen. Underground 1 and 2 especially. However, they make you drive very very aggressive. So, beware...

Gotta bring back this old thread...
Had a great ride to work this morning :D Loaded some Ministry and Audioslave on the Ipod last night. Great driving tunes ! Even put some MCR on there for ya Gerry ! Nick |
Hi,
Check out this past thread on the same subject: http://www.986forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6117&highlight=Friday Happy Motoring!... Jim'99 |

Thanks ! I saw this thread as well : http://986forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=369 I remember reading these threads a couple of months ago... The funny thing is, when I bought the Boxster, I loaded the CD of ZZ Top's Greatest Hits on my Ipod, even though I hadn't listened to the CD since college. I was wondering to myself, what in the world is up with the correlation between ZZ Top and Porsche Boxsters  ? Nick |
Try:
James Dean by the Eagles. Especially if you have a silver Boxster. |
In keeping with the Boxster's German roots I suggest Nihil, XTORT, and Symbols by German industrial giants KMFDM.
The following CDs get me to work at least 10 minutes faster: Ministry - Psalm 69 Ministry - Houses of the Mole Metallica - Master of Puppets Metallica - ...And Justice for All Megadeth - Capital Punishment Fear Factory - Archetype Pantera - 101 Proof Live For laid back cruising with the top down I recommend Chimera by Delerium, Mezzanine or Protection by Massive Attack, or for a bit of an edgier listen Life In the So-Called Space Age by God Lives Underwater. Lately I can't seem to take a CD wallet out of the house that doesn't contain at least two Tool CDs, currently I've go 10,000 days, Lateralus, and Aenima in the car. |
heck yah! Black Parades rock! (thanks nick!) and my kids still think I'm cool :D
I got this tunes in my car right now: MCR Black Parade Beck's new album w/ nausea James Blunt justin Timberlake (for the ladies...ahahahaha) 80's alternative rock Metallica / and justice for all (to be honest, i can;t find in my heart to remove this album out of my cd changer) Quote:

For all you Chicagoans...check out Material Issue. Older band and the singer committed suicide, but good tunes nonetheless.
