Great car, and great sound but such a bloody boring film.. How its become a cult movie i dont know ??
So whats your best `road` trip movie ?? Of ALL TIME ?? And please dont say...`Smokey and The Bandit `!! |
Has to be Bullet. Perhaps not a true road trip, but damn close since half of the movie is the chase.

Nobody for the Fast n Furious movies? Really? Sure, the acting is terrible, the plots are dumb, most of the cars are American, but it's about cars. Just cars. What more can you want? :D
Tokyo Drift is the best in that series, and features a bunch of cool modified ricers. the fast of furios Tokyo Drift trailer - YouTube What about Skyfall? The latest 007, with the reappearance of the beloved Aston Martin. Very cool. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01/0071362198607.jpg |
Those Fast and the Furious movies epitomize everything I hate about that whole ricer culture and the dumb-ass kids that drive them with their stupid coffee can mufflers and picnic table wings and most of all the #$%^## subwoofers that irritate the living #@%$$%# out of me every time one goes by. I just want to drag them out of their crap can cars and slap them silly until my hand hurts to much to slap them any more. Not to put too fine a point on it...
But yeah, Cannonball Run...great movie. Honorable mentions to White Lightning and Dirty Mary Crazy Larry and of course Easy Rider. |
Can't think of any road trip movies but I love the car chase scenes in Ronin.

"Trains, Plane and Automobiles". John Candy was terrific driving the burned up Chrysler LeBaron.

I haven't seen this one since I was of college age, but I remember it as one of the best.

My favorite asphalt (road?) movie. These guys are amazing, and no cage if you crash ! |

LMAO - there's a lot more truth to that than you know! |
Hey, we forgot this cult classic...
It's pretty nutso . C'était un rendez-vous http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/03/9adeva6y.jpg |
Best film with driving content- LeMans. The king of cool in the 917k vs the Ferrari 512 long tail. "Racing is ....life. Everything that happens before or after, is just waiting."
Best road trip story- Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance IMHO of course |

Car Movies
The "Seven Ups" has one of the best car chase scenes ever! Roy Schieder is not as cool as Steve McQueen though!
|
This is my favorite road movie of all time. The cast is outstanding and the Gas Station destruction scene is a classic!
It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World (1963) Official Theatrical Trailer - YouTube http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1362289797.jpg |
I was going to mention that one! I remember seeing it at the theatre when it first came out. (See Porsche Chick? You weren't that far off the mark with the bathrobe crack!)
|
The interesting thing about Bullitt was that it was filmed with so many parked cars around in the middle of San Francisco with any "speeding up the film" to create an illusion of speed.
BTW, I'd trade my Boxster for that Mustang in a second. |

Dirty Mary Crazy Larry (1974)
|
Here's another classic I almost forgot from the 1970's (seems like a lot of the best car chase scenes were from movies shot in the 60's and 70's.......Before everyone got lazy with CGI and "Green Screens"). The clip is in the middle of an interesting article that explains how the scene was shot.
The French Connection | Film | Scenic Routes | The A.V. Club I don't think we want to recreate this chase with our Boxsters.......Way too much body damage! However, it does remind me of my drive up to LAX on the 405 on a few Monday mornings!!! http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1362334287.jpg |
Okay, it's time we start listing more movies from the last couple of decades, guys. :D
Points for something under 10 years old . . . |
Ok, how about Lord of the Rings? Now there's a road trip!

Lemans best, Grand Prix close second. Incredible cars and sounds from an incredible era. The scenes from GumBall Rally with the Cobra and Ferrari Daytona, the opening sequence of Cannonball Run with the sounds of the high revving Lambo.

Since Particlewave took mine, how about the mini coopers in the Italian Job? Also, no love for Love Bug? |
Btw, yes the f n f series are absolutely ridiculous. With the horrible acting, stupid plots, and thinly veiled latent homo-erotic undertones, there's no doubt they suck fast and they suck furiously. Now, I'm not about to go off on them like Mr. Get-Off-My-Lawn because the truth is I have a pretty lucrative hobby building extremely quick cars for those kinds of dudes and a surprising number of chics (no vinyl graphics and no stupid neon colors, sorry Vin Diesel). However, whoever said Tokyo Drift was the best of that turd lineup is on crack! Fast 5 was dumb but was far and away the most entertaining and least cringe inducing of the group!!
