Paint source

Recently I picked up a used '12 VW Autobahn as a daily driver, which keeps the Boxster from getting beat up too much on rural roads. Since it is now relegated to weekend and "just for giggles" duties I have time to do some cosmetic upgrades.

Question is, what is the best source for color matched rattle cans. I know they can be found and I have seen several maufacturers. I do want to put effort into things like the bumperettes, new spoiler and color matching an extra console I have.

I did find through the search a good DIY, but I'm still looking for a good paint source.

Cheers all,

Steve

Go to a trusted local body shop. Have them make you and sell you a pint of paint to match your car. Take that pint of paint to a quality local paint store. They should be able to put your paint into spray cans.

Try and get solvent based paint if possible. Most shops are moving to water based paint which is harder to work with in conditions outside of a spray booth...

Or, you can order the parts (bumperettes and console) from Bumperplugs. Excellent quality and service.

You may want to check Tower Paint (I can't remember the name of the other company). They put the coded paint into spray cans, and can even get (if I recall correctly) paint with flex agents for urethane/plastic applications.

I've had great luck with Touch Up Paint from PaintScratch.com
Multiple orders, consistent color & matches exterior. Including the metallic flake.

Rattle can paint is easy to match in color from any respectable paint provider, but the paint is very fragile and will deteriorate in a year or two. You have to use a catalyzed paint if you want a long lasting repair.

Try Auto Touch Up Paint, Automotive Touch Up Paint, Car & Truck Touchup Paint: Acura, Honda, Toyota & More. and you can get it in sticks, cans, spray, etc. Including a matched set to include the slear coat.
